Subject: Taken the plunge..DSLR

After weeks of looking, Nikon vs Canon, I have finally bought a second hand Canon 10D with 28-70mm USM lens off e-bay (1 year old hardly used from pro photographer, used as back-up camera). Well thats the cheap bit bought, lenses, well thats something else.... i'm looking for a tele zoom, looking at the 75-300mm USM. Has any one used one. Any comments would be welcome. Steve

Excellent. I think they are both good comparable cameras, but for some reason I think you get better lens choices with Canon.If you go Canon lenses.Apparently Sigma does good onyour camera too.I know with my Nikkor ED 70-300 it is really a good lens.Though a bit finicky at long range it can seem real good by the viewfinder and LCD back, Get it on the PC and I notice more grain than I wanted.No matter...you will love this new purchace.Looking forward to the images.

Grats on the purchase! Hope you get as much joy from the step up to DSLR as I have had :) Now you look forward to plenty of torment of lusting after lenses ;) I've not used the 75-300, I have a 70-200 F4 L which is an awesome lens. Maybe thats not long enough for what you require though. I'm currently lusting over the 100-400 L (a grand of glass :o ) - just look at the stuff Danob has posted using it, and join me in dribbling over the keyboard ;)

Congrats and your DSLR purchase! I have the 75-300 Canon IS version of the lens. The IS (image stabilization) works great. As far as the lens goes well I have a mix bag of feelings. I have taken some great shots with this lens, but I have missed some shots due to the slow focus. The 70-200 F4 L lens would be a great choice to start out with. The 75-300 is pretty sharp up to 200mm from there on it is a little soft. Enjoy your new camera and lets see some photos.
