Subject: Hmmmm. Mike's eyebrows won't take a texture. Any ideas?

I finally get a chance to use Mike and the Travis textures I got awhile back, but no matter what I do, his eyebrows remain stubbornly white. Is this a Michael problem, or a Travis texture problem? Greywolf

Did you apply the texture to the eyebrow materials?

Greywolf Starkiller ( ) posted Sun, 18 February 2001 at 5:34 PM

Oh yes. Vicky is very similar to mike where texturing is concerned, and I've done her many times. This, however, is driving me batty simply because his brows SHOULD texture, and they're not. Since I've seen Mike as Travis in the Gallery many times, there's serious head scratching going on here. I wonder if I need the update. I bought Mike long after the last update for him, but maybe Zygote forgot the update the store file. I can't think of anything else. Greywolf

Compare the Travis texture to the blank template and see what goes where. E-mail the author as well.

I've got one more idea to try, unless of course I find a mistake in the Tex, but I think if there had been, it would have been mentioned by now. No, I think there might be a little mixup in Mike's material names. With Vickie, the eyebrow mat is textured and the upper brow is left transparent and without texture. Maybe in Mike's case, it's the other way around. I'll give that a shot. Greywolf

Most textures I hav seen from people other than zygote don't actually have any texture in the eyebrow area for trans or anything.

Hi, did you set the min. and max transparency to 100% on the eyebrows and both upper eyebrows, and eyebrows colors white? I think with Vicki just the max trans needs to bet set but Im finding with Mike both need to be set to get the eyebrows set like the texture. Also reflective colors on Mikes eyebrows need to be black, and you can't use the mapped version of mike with z's trans map or the eyebrows wont look correctly with the texture either. Apologies if you already did all this but was trying to think what would cause these are the only thing I could think of.

Here is an image I did with him with both min and max trans on both eyebrows and upper eyebrows set to 100% and white for both colors, black for all other colors, hope this helps some.

Thanks, Tammy! I believe that's likely it. That is the one part that's different enough from Vic to cause me the problems I had. Oh yes, and VERY nice work on the texture. This was the first time I've had a good look at Mike since I bought him, and I REALLY like the beard morphs. Nice to see they got rid of the Dork look. :) That, and the Travis texture REALLY turns him into a MAN! Heh, Vickie's drooling all over my keyboard. :) Greywolf

Thanks, glad I could help, those eyebrows drove me crazy too so thats how I knew. Mike is a terrific model I really enjoy working with him.

bloodsong ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 4:14 PM

um... if you set the min and max to 100%, you've made the eyebrows completely and totally transparent. or, they might as well not exist. :) unless i'm missing some poser anomaly, here. i think its better if you set the min to 0% and the max to 100% and use the transmap. also, zygotes default michael skin has no eyebrow colour (nor lashes, nor pubic hair). i believe you are expected to colour those with just object colour, not the texture.

Tammy ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 6:46 PM

Well in the case of Travis you would want the original eyebrows completely transparent because they are on the texture map as part of the face not in the mapped eyebrow area, I got a more natural look with this texture this way, and all of the textures I have bought except one have been done this way too. Same with pubic hair its part of the body map, eyelashes do need colored as they are not part of the face map.
