In my time as a Marine Mechanic I used that copper stuff on loads of machines. It stops nuts&bolts seizing at temps upwards of 1000f, but it was very pricey stuff.

My PC has been acting up the last few months. It would lock up if I looked at it crooked. So I started to investigate, read all that I could, tried a bunch of Software related sudo fixes. Finally I tore my machine apart yesterday and what did I find? The Heatsink compound was one of those silly stick on types (all dried up), I cleaned all that crap off. Now you're suppose to use Silicone heatsink Compound, Yet I researched quite a bit & found out you can use a Copper base Anti Seize like Mechanics use, it has the same consistancy, a bit grainier but much better heat properties. It just so happens that I had some in the garage. Installed everything, went into my CMOS & dropped my memory access to safe mode(which was probably the culprit for the lock-ups). Damn thing runs like a tank(tried like hell to make it crash), a tiny bit slower, but it's worth the trade off. ICM
