Hi, I am in search of Space: AAB stuff, including weapons, vehicles, whips, etc. All I found was a lightwave version of a Headhammer, that I canot open, so can anybody help, please? Thanks in advance Gargoyle

I'm a big sci fi fan and I have no clue about that show. I have not seen anything around any of the free sites or 3d modeling sites that was specific for Space Above and Beyond. Guess I'll have to go check out the show.

You definitely have too. Its something like Wing Commander in dark, or Vietnam in space. Very well done, but ti only had one season - it was done by the X-Files guys. Its from 95 I think.

I think I missed that show entirely.

It didn't reach enough critical mass to get Poser-ized. The closest it came was someone (can't remember who) modeling one of the ships in Bryce. Those of us who remember it can't help noticing how much more the new Battlestar:Galactica has in common with it than Glen Larson's TV show.

Here's one in Lightwave format. Space Above & Beyond Hammerhead Fighter http://lwg3d.org/v3/meshes.php?item=50

Yeah that was the one which does not load properly :(

Ghostofmacbeth ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 7:59 PM

The only thing I have seen is that one ship. I liked the show a lot.

GabrielK ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 8:04 PM

The show had its moments but it never really caught on. I don't recall ever seeing any SAAB models personally, let alone Poser versions, sorry.

Gareee ( ) posted Sat, 30 July 2005 at 10:26 PM

Nope, no poser support that I've seen anywhere.. een real merchandise and model kits are scarce, but somewhere I do have LW models of the hammerhead, the main destroyer, and a chig fighter. The show is REALLY worth watching. I have the set burned on svcd here, and the wife really got hooked on it when we re-watched it a few months back.

I had high hopes for that show when it was new......but it just didn't do it for me.

I prefer a type of idealism in fiction that doesn't encompass most 20th or 21st century stories. "Heros" are usually anti-heros. There is no true White Knight.

These days, fiction (or 'reality' TV) tends to cheer for the lion/dragon.

In a horror story, such things work -- but in adventures? Not for me.

PS -- that's why I'm still a fan of Classic Trek. And it's a part of the reason why I don't like TNG -- and why I despise Voyager.....and the rest.

If you can get permission from the original artist, I would be willing to try to convert the Lightwave models to Poser format. Though I may need help getting the parts to move in the right direction. :) In other sci-fi news, I have permission to convert the Discovery (from 2001) and Serenity (from Firefly, but both models are too big for Poser use: they each weigh in around 200,000 polygons and the Discovery is a 69M obj file! Hopefully the Space: Above and Beyond models won't be as big. :) --John

Ooooooh Serenity......

For those of you who've heard of the show, it'll be released on DVD as a Best Buy 'exclusive' in October of this year. And back on topic, the only model I've seen is the previously mentioned Hammerhead. Maybe when the DVD comes out, people will get interested in it again.

ScottA ( ) posted Mon, 01 August 2005 at 9:34 AM

The Hammerhead ship works fine if you convert it to an .obj file first. But it's over 6meg.

DrunkMonkey ( ) posted Mon, 01 August 2005 at 9:59 AM

Shame that show didn't pan out. I really liked it. A few of the stories made me roll my eyes and I could never really get used to them being pilots AND grunts, but overall a really enjoyable show.

Gareee ( ) posted Mon, 01 August 2005 at 10:31 AM

We loved it, but th elast episode was such a SHOCK, and there was never a followup episode. A Movie ala Firefly would rock, and the actors haven't done much since then.

Hi guys,

Converted the LWG Hammerhead to LW 5.6 format in LW 8.3 then imported it into Poser 6 as a test. Poser6 handles the format perfectly without excess smoothing, big surprise to me:-)
Included is a pic without the texures, will add them over the next few minutes. Just waiting for permission from the creator, Fabio Passaro, to share this model.

Not sure if this model will work in Poser 4 due to the smoothing process it uses.

I started working on a optimization today, and conversion. The only moving parts are the top turret, bottom turret, missles, and possibly the top canopy. The pilot is junk, but I'll leave him as a smartprop. (and he was almost 1/2 of the mesh's polys!) I've got the ship itself down to a much more managable 17,590 polys. (I just sent an update into Daz for their Martian War machine, originally 77,000 polys, down to 14 with no real visible difference in poser.) I had regrouped it, and wasn;t 100% happy with it's rigging, and PM'd Noggin to ask him, since he's done some spiders n such.. he sent me back the mesh with a completely new proper rigging, with IK for walking as well!

Garee, well done :-) I'll leave this conversion in your more than capable hands,my understanding of Poser Hierarchies is minimal at best LOL RonGC
