"What 3D Program Should I buy?" Not one person here can really tell you what's best for you, as everyone has their own taste in workflow. Try the demo or learning edition of the program you're interested in, this is the only way to find out which programs you like.
Excellent. It looks like a very efficiant model. I was reading on the Silo website that they were planning on implemnting a bones system in the future. Thsi woudl be great for peopel who are not doing real animations but want to have reusable characters that you make yourself. Also find it a bit easier to deal with a cage then with every single last polygon. I do want to get a copy of Silo as soon as i can. (I have played withe the demo and liek it a lot)ใ๏ผฉstill like wings a bit mor efor mechanical type of things because of the way it works with edges. But I want to work on more organic models. I liekthat you can up and down the number of poilys per patch to get the look you want.

Yeah, Silo kicks some butt. Not only are bones in the works to aid modelers just wanting to pose a model after creation but they also have displacement painting in the pipeline too. We should be hearing about it after Siggraph. It'll be fun for us modelers who want to add ZBRush or Artisan like detail to our models but still maintain control of the model after we're done (I understand ZBrush turns it 2D after you're finished). Silo can do non-organic stuff pretty well from what I've seen but as I've always said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it." If Wings is more comfortable to ya for non-organic work then I'd suggest sticking with it.Attached Link: http://diterlizzi.com/art/games/index.shtml
Modeling from anime is not really ideal. I have doen a lot of drawing and drawing anime I find that they for lack of a better word cheat. There is a lot that they do that can't be doen in 3D there are only certain angles taht they are usually seen from. There is a certain way they draw lines where a simple line correctly places with a few curves can do a lot. Are you into fantasy art? I am and there are soem that don't just do muscle bound hero's. Tony DiTerlizzi has a lot of great stuff. His characters are fun and a bit odd. Have you looked at Rodney Mattews stuff very stylized and it is interestingly detailed. Can't wait to see this one done. Great work .The wit of a misplaced ex-patriot.

"(I understand ZBrush turns it 2D after you're finished)." umm nope..the "tool" itself is still fully 3D, by marking and using layers you can keep full 3d control of an entire scene. even when you drop your tool onto the canvas, it still retains all z-depth information = 2.5D. really neat toon figure BTW! very clean cage! only thing i can see is the arms look "very" long.
