Subject: Buying Poser 5 (Mac OS X only)?

imagynart ( ) posted Mon, 01 August 2005 at 4:09 PM · edited Thu, 25 July 2024 at 5:26 PM

Hello you all... I'm aware that Poser 6 came out but I've no desire for it at this point. I'm seeking to purchase an used or rarely used Poser 5 (Mac OS X only please!) program in CD or in original package. I've tried eBay but got some Windows versions (but there were two Poser 5 programs but sellers forgot to state whether it is a Mac or Win program. I did asked but no response yet). Any information or reference to purchasing Poser 5 for Mac is greatly appreciated. Thank you and have a nice day. Rob

How about Amazon: Poser 5 for MacOSX: $89

Don't do it Rob. My P5 has been unusable since I upgraded operating systems (10.4). No return feedback from curious labs ... or Apple. Going to their site to upgrade seems to be more than the site can handle. But, it is nice to know the coders were nice enough to include error messages for just about any action you take. To their credit they have put a short sweet note up saying that P5 has issues, and they have them resolved in P6. But they don't say whether or not they will ever fix P5. I'm trying not to be bitter, but it's an awesome program when it works...I love it. But... They have the market cornered on the type of software it is. (sorry daz & hash) There is lots of money being exchanged in cyberspace based on it's just being around. And really, Ive been on board since P2, but I feel that they don't have no love for us Mac folks anymore. I think on the P7 wishlist I'm gonna wish for them to have genuine concern for perception of their product. For a product that's been out for as long as they have...they're really pulling some rookie moves. Sorry Rob, the short answer is get P6 or wait for them to fix 5.

Well, I'm still using Panther (10.3.8). How Poser 5 has been faring under Panther before Tiger?

I had 10.2 before I upgraded. And it ran fine, Only real limits I had were due to running on an older machine. G4 Mac 512 Ram. Rage 128 Video card. But, it calculated hair dynamics, cloth physics, etc. The process was slow, but you could make it to an end result.

I have Poser 5 under Tiger (10.4.2) and it appears to be stable enough. I'd rather use Poser 6 anyway for the new features. And I'd really rather use Cinema 4D 9!
