Subject: Is it possible to add categories to the library...

onimusha ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 1:38 PM ยท edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 2:48 AM

I find the library in P6 to be somewhat unwieldly. I'm specifically referring to the pose section of it. It's simply used for too many different things. Poses, MATs, Morphs, Utilities like hiding body parts or turning off IK. Is there a way to mod P6 and give yourself more categories, like multiple Pose folders?

You can create subdirectories to help organise things, or use the Multiple Runtime support.

onimusha ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 1:58 PM

I've created a lot of subdirectories, but they end up being really big and take forever to load. Maybe I can subdivide even further...

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 2:40 PM

onimusha - Here's how I did it. All the DAZ INJ and REM poses are kept in the main Pose folder, then I created a subdirectory called !!Poses (I used !! to keep it at the top) and put everything else in there. The !!Poses folder is divided up like this: Animals Clothes People Props Vehicles Weapons and so forth. Each one of those has further subdivisions if necessary. For example, People is divided into the model types, such as Aiko, David, Mike 2, Mike 3 etc. Each one of those may also be divided into Poses and Character MATs. The trick is to balance the amount of content with the amount of subfolders. After all, it can be just as much of a pain in the arse to go through several levels of directories as it is to scroll around.

Mine is also set up pretty much like SamTherapy's, it can still be a pain though as SamTherapy says double clicking on folders! I like it though! thefixer, poser coord.

Thanks SamTherapy. I had the same complaint that onimusha had. I just reorganized my pose folder that way and it works better for me.

You're welcome. Glad I could help. :)

This is one of my major gripes with Poser. Call me a PC traditionalist, but I'd like nice Windows Explorer interface. One column of icons is a drag, and no way to change the view (icon, list, details). I'll often jump out of Poser, and use an image viewer like ACDSee to scan for that perfect pose.

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 02 August 2005 at 9:50 PM

Ken - if you have P6 you don't have to stick with a single column. You can undock the library palette and expand it across the whole screen. Not as good as Explorer's or ACDSee's views but a damn sight better than the usual "One Great Big Huge Long Column Of Stuff" we had in the past.

Try to create more runtimes. In my expirience, there is a lot of stuff in the folders never used only collected to have it. I have all my poser stuff, nearly never used, in Downloads. The rest is organised in Clothes, Buildings, Weapons, .... All seperate Runtimes so that I have in my Poser only the usually used figures, poses and props. Speeds up Poser dramatically.

What is the best way to create alternate runtimes. It's something I've never quite gotten the hang of in P5.

If you look into your Poser directory you will find runtime and downloads among other dirs. If you look into downloads you will find the runtime and in runtime the same structure as in the main runtime. Create a new directory wherever you want, I suggest direct under Poser with a name that directs you to Clothes, Vehicles or whatever you need and then copy the structure of the Download dir into your new dir means: Poser/mydir/runtime/...
The .obj files have to be located in the main runtime/Geometries and I have also all textures under runtime/textures.

In Poser click on the folder item until you reach the level Poser then a rightclick on the foldername above the dir-icon and add new runtime. Direct poser to your mydir and thats it.

The answer to your prayers can be found in Multiple Runtimes. I use them, and have multiple runtimes for the following.... loading is fast, things are easy to find, it's highly organized, and well, just easier to manage in general Animals Faeries and Angels Mermaids Millennium Baby Hair Props and Poses Lighting M3 Character Addons M3 Clothes V3 Character Addons V3 Clothes SP3 Character Addons SP3 Clothes D3 Character Addons D3 Clothes Apollo Maximus BG and Environments V2 Clothes Misc Figures Furette and Furaldo I have others, but those are the main ones. Others are stored on CD and accessed as needed.
