Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I saw that. Already downloaded it last night.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't send out the usual announcement. In previous weeks, they've always sent out notice of the freebie before said freebie was available.

Berserga ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 9:30 AM

Wow what a freebie, and it should compliment Urban Sprawl pretty well.

aeilkema ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 9:36 AM

I've downloaded it by now and this city is cool and pretty large too. This is an awesome freeby indeed. I've been considering Urban Sprawl, but I can save quite some money now. Thanks CP!

It really doesn't hurt tp pay CP a visit each week on wednesday or so. I always do so. The only problem is most of the time I'm tempted to pick up something else during my visit too. Mostly small things since CP is lacking (thankfully) all of those large, screaming. hard to resist ads daz does have.

Thanks for the tip aeilkema! Nice freebie!!!

xoconostle ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 4:21 PM

Paper Boy was mentioned as being "free for a limiited time only" or something like that. Sixus1 has done that quite a bit in the past year. A temporarily free item is later put up for sale. You might try IM'ing Rebekah to see if it'll be available again.

I checked every day for the paperboy and never found it. I don't think it was ever put up.

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 7:10 PM

Yes, it was, I downloaded it last week (paper boy). It is still there BTW, under the name "Alphaman and BetaBoy service release" ;o)

Thanks for the head ups on the cities freebie aeilkema, if they sent a newsletter I probably would not have paid attention since everytime I had checked the freebie mentioned was never there. I just got newspaper boy tonight, what a cutie! But it was not in with the regular freebies, it was a link from a freebie that said I might like it too.

sixus1 ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 7:38 PM

Attached Link: Newsboy at CP

The service Release doesn't include the Newsboy clothing set. It is an update of the CR2 files for Alphaman and Betaboy, plus clothing development rigs and base figure texture templates. I can't find the Newsboy in the freebies or in the e frontier catagory, but I still have a link for it :) Glad that you like the Alpha City set. It isn't modular like a city construction set...it is a single obj that loads in and the polycount is a little on the large side, but in our test renders, it worked quite nicely :) --Rebekah--

Francemi ( ) posted Wed, 03 August 2005 at 7:56 PM

Sorry about that. I remembered downloading the SR1 and as I had the News Boy too, I thought it was in the same package. ;o)

It's a nice city. Maybe a bit big, but look how many polys some figures have. Testuremaps may be more significant. The general look puts me in mind of the fifties and sixties, mostly the overhead wiring (telephone?) and the style of the street lights. It's a fairly dense urban area which hasn't been glossed up. Haven't tried yet, but it looks as though transparency settings would work to hide some things so that they could be replaced with different styles.

stonemason ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 12:38 AM

cool..more urban :)...the Poser market is getting fairly well covered now in urban scenery..this makes me happy..we've had enough of those bloody temples, lol not sure about the polycount though?..urban sprawl is only 50k..& my next one is 100k. now we need someone to start making some alpha-plane people/pets..detritus etc...gotta fill these streets up with some life :) Cheers Stefan

Been there, done that, got the road-rash...

sixus1 ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 2:32 AM

You hit the nail on the head AntoniaTiger about the style...it is supposed to have that 'retro' look. :) Alphaman and Betaboy needed some place to battle the forces of evil. Everyone enjoy! And as I said...the set doesn't have the versitility of many of the pay Urban City sets/scenes that you have all come to love. :) But what is does have is its own style and a certain ease of use in that simplicity. --Rebekah-- BTW--there will be coming soon...Gamma Girl and the Red Ghoul.

aeilkema ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 2:43 AM

Rebekah, it's a great scene, ver enjoyable, thanks for giving it away for free! Even though I'm not really into creating superhero images (I do love to read superhero comics and watch movies though), it's still a great city with many uses. I love the scale of it, the camera settings are great and the lightsets very welcome to. Excellent work! By the way, Red Ghoul, that sounds interesting.

Les informed me that the buildings are body parts and can be set to not visible (and there won't be a hole in the ground) and another building if wanted can be dropped in even. :) And don't just thank us for the freebie, e frontier deserves credit also. :) --Rebekah--

aeilkema ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 3:04 AM

Rebekah, I already did thank E-Frontier yesterday. I dropped them a mail first to thank them for this great freebie, since I wasn't a hundred percent sure if you guys were involved too. Do I need to thank anymore people :-)?

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 10:56 AM

It's something I'd have to check, but the bricks look wrongly proportioned. Could be a US/US difference, but the vertical height looks wrong.

sixus1 ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 11:15 AM

Hmmmm...you can thank all of the little people that made it all possible, Linda Carter, David Lynch and Carrot Top. ;p I didn't mean that you literally had to do that. Only a reminder that although we created it, they are suppling it as a freebie (for a limited time). Wronly proportioned bricks....I'll keep that in mind. --Rebekah--

xantor ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 1:51 PM

That is the great thing about this forum, there is always somebody going to complain about something even if it is free.

Sorry, Xantor, was that your foot?

xantor ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 4:20 PM

Heh I wouldn`t know the proportions of a brick just to look at them but there were other complaints.

sixus1 ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 5:49 PM

It is a toon environment; I don't think that Les measured the bricks. Sorry. You can always apply another texture map if you would like and it should work fairly well. :) --Rebekah--
