Subject: What is your (or the) most scary or menacing Gallery post?

Jovial ( ) posted Thu, 04 August 2005 at 3:50 PM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 8:58 PM

Hi,

I really enjoyed seeing some of the recent threads where members put forward their most viewed or favourite Gallery posts. Such posts really open up ones eyes to new and interesting perspectives that are often overlooked in a trawl of the Galleries.

I was wondering if I could tempt you to share your most scary or most menacing images with me (or even links to the most scary or menacing images that you have seen here) - I don't think the Horror category always covers it because scary and menacing could be in almost any Genre. I am really NOT interested in blood and guts, gory, yukky images - but rather in the use of subject, lighting, mood, expression and psychological factors and how they are portrayed to give the desired effect.

I have just done a (atypically for me) Sci-Fi image that aims to be (a little bit) scary without actually being violent or bloodthirsty. The choice of subject was easy for me as I must admit that "Alien" gives me the creeps whenever I see it. Although the alien itself is probably not as scary as one's own fears of darkness (and what it might hold!)

I now wonder if I have rather over-egged the image by putting the obvious shadow of the alien, and I should have just had deeper darkness and shapes that one cannot quite make out.

I would really welcome your thoughts on those images that you wanted to convey (or cause) fear or menace and how you achieved it (or - if it is the work of someone else - what it was about the image and what feelings it produced in you).

Thanks in advance.

My menacing image is :

Most menacing by far is From the Dark

But these could do as well:
Child of Chaos
Oppenheimer's Haircut
Madame Usher
Common Enemy

Wow, I never really thought of how much dark stuff I do, maybe it's from all The Cure and Depeche Mode I listened to as a teenager.

Oh, well... I usually dont draw scary or menacing images (I prefer nude women, heh). But taking a view Ive found some pics:

Undead
Caged
Somebodys Watching Me

... and two more a lilbit older but effective:

Cmon and kiss me!
Panic

My two cents ;)

I haven't made it yet :-) I have the idea for one that if I get it right should be pretty eerie but I only brought my computer back to life just last night. I suppose for now this one would be mine.

I don't know if others would find this scary or menacing but while composing it I was thinking about nightmares and dream logic a lot.

I'd say 99% of the gallery shows a scary disconcern for correct female proportions..

darthuv ( ) posted Sat, 06 August 2005 at 2:07 PM

Sarte, I think there is something more disconcerting than proportions, in the fact that most of these images have woman as the victims. :P Plus, it took DAZ and other model makers a while before they started giving any chest reduction options for their female models.
