Subject: Please suggest a modelling program for Poser 6 figures/clothing

RKane_1 ( ) posted Fri, 05 August 2005 at 8:06 PM · edited Mon, 23 December 2024 at 1:53 AM

I am looking for a relatively inexpensive but one that is versatile enough to serve as a program that I can model figures and clothing in. I don't care so much about rendering with it as I plan to do that in Poser. Do you guys have any suggestions?

A lot of folks use Wings3D, which is free and from what I understand has a lot of great features. There is also a Wings3D forum here, I believe.

You might also try Cararra Basic2 Eovia

"relatively inexpensive" brings to mind Silo and Hexagon. Silo, from nevercenter.com, had a habit of making obj files bigger than they needed to be. Don't know if they've fixed that. The support and response to customer requests from the Silo people is impressive. I really admire those guys. Hexagon, from eovia.com, is gaining converts as well. Both have 30 day uncrippled demos available. At the end of the day good-ole-Wings (free) is still my favorite though. I can work very fast with Wings, but that's very subjective territory.

If you've got P6 didn't you get Shade 7 with it? That's a modelling software! thefixer, poser coord.

You might find this thread at DAZ helpful. Basically, you should try a lot of different software, and find a program that works for you. There are a lot of low-cost and free modelling programs out there (many of them linked in the thread), so you have a lot of choices.

I guess that silo has some advantages right now. $110 and a free upgrade to silo2. With very impressive topology and displacement brushes, uv paint etc. The most impressive uvtools now come from Modo, but it is a bit expensive (some$700) Anyway there the workflow on one hand, and you will always have to get used to that, but here's experience on the other hand. And when you have an idea what 3D is after using free Wings or a demo, another choice will always be quicker to learn. The first steps in 3D are the hardest.

I have tried prudent planning long enough. From now I'll be mad. (Rumi)

Silo!! Wouldn't use anything else now! This program is very impressive and quick to learn. I make all my stuff in this program now.
