Subject: Plug-ins for Carrara

ominousplay ( ) posted Sun, 07 August 2005 at 8:37 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 7:57 PM

Hi all, I was searching around for Carrara related sites when I found a set of plug-ins for Carrara from Michael Gochoco. The plugs are free from his site, and some look very useful, but I couldn't make the first I tried work : ( I tried the Duplicate Attached Plugin, which should have allowed me to duplicate a model with skeleton and IK without unattaching it first. But my computer ( mac ) just froze up. Has anyone else tried any of these plugins? Here is his site: http://www.associatedfx.com/mac_plugins.html R.

Hi, this is Michael. Can you tell me what might be happening when you try to dupe the file. If possible, perhaps you can post the file and I can take a look at it to see what might be causing the freeze. Mike

Hi Mike, I'm working on getting my site together to post files, but I can say, you've put a lot of work into the plug-ins. Thank you. I tried several others and I think it must be my errors. The comments plug worked, I just need to use it more. I'm running Carrara 4.1.1 on an emac 1.2 gig, 1 gig ram. Thanks again for the postings of plugins and your response. I'm starting my first big project. For the past few years I've been learning the app. and making misc. Alaskan models of fish, geese, beaver/ otter, etc. and now I have a story to go with them. The script runs about 10 pages. I'll have all the 3D to create, then all the sound effects, dialogue, music?, ugh. A huge undertaking. Your plugins look like a helpful tool for getting some of the more difficult animation jobs completed. One scene has a flock of geese flying down a river valley, another has tadpoles following a mother frog ( which doesn't happen in nature, but salmon don't talk either ). I need twenty of so samlon swimming in a stream, a hundred single eggs floating down stream, insects buzzing and getting gulped down by salmon fry. Anyway, I'm ranting on. Thanks again, I'll keep playing with the plugs to get them to work. Glad to see you posting at this site. R.

I think I located what might have been the bug. I've posted an update on my site. You should download version 1.6 http://www.associatedfx.com/plugins.html Let me know if you continue to experience the bug. Cheers, Mike

That fixed it. I also gave it time during saves and that seemed to help. I even flipped the hand and all came out okay. The IK, bones, and vertex object all dupliated well. Thank you! Oh no, it appears that I'm missing a set of joints in the fingers, at the end... oops! I have to re-rig it on the final anyway. I can't seem to copy the skeleton and IK over to the final model very easily. I end up having to re-rig all the fingers over and over. It takes so much time! Great job on the plugins!

Those plug ins look good, but do you plan on putting out a PC version any time soon? I'd really like to give them a try.
