Subject: Problems with exporting Hair

mikeywilliam ( ) posted Mon, 08 August 2005 at 8:14 PM · edited Wed, 14 August 2024 at 3:18 PM

Hi I am new to Poser 5 ( or any poser product) I am having a problem with opening my created characters into scenry programs such as Vue or Bryce. I can load up the models just fine exept for one thing...They do not retain the hair that I added in Poser 5. I save them as the standerd .pos file so then I thought I would save them as .3ds files...Nothing different. What exactly am I doing wrong? Thank you bunches , mikeywilliam.

Is it dynamic hair? Dynamic hair doesn't export very well. If you have the Mover plugin, you can export dynamic hair to Vue, but it doesn't look quite the same. I don't think you can export dynamic hair to Bryce at all.

Ok I'll try using the Poser4 hair models and see what that does...Previously all I could get was that genatic skull-cap black hair effect...you know what I mean...well, anyway I'm gonna go and try that. Again, Thank you! I'll let you know what Happens mikeywilliam

You may have to adjust the transparency maps with transmapped hair. For some reason, transparency doesn't always translate well. It's usually easy to fix, though.

There's an important difference between Vue and Bryce: Vue can import PZ3 files directly. Depends on what Vue version you have: Vue 5 Infinite imports PZ3 animations, complete with dynamic cloth and hair. Not P6 SR1 dynamic cloth and hair though (I think e-on is working on a fix). No extra tools needed. Vue 5 d'Esprit, Vue 4.5 Pro and Vue 4.22 d'Esprit can import the first frame of a PZ3 straight out of the box. Dynamic cloth and hair won't import. If you want to import complete animations, dynamic cloth and hair, you need the Mover plugin ($79, if I remember correctly). I usually adjust the highlights and bumps in Vue, transparencies seem to import just fine. Bryce cannot import Poser files directly. You must export as .obj, and you'll lose the transparency info. You'll have to fix the materials in Bryce. Dynamic cloth can be exported fine as .obj, but dynamic hair can't. So Bryce can't handle dynamic hair.

You can import dynamic hair (& Cloth) into Mojoworld 3.

svdl - Bryce 5.5 reads .PZ3 files through it's integrated Daz Studio but while it doesn't do dynamic hair (yet) it does transfer the textures and alpha effects (like transmap hair). tastiger - I was kinda surprised that MJW3.1.1 has just about the best .PZ3 importer I've ever used. One thing that I think really helps is that both Poser and MJW use the same core render engine (REYES).

"tastiger - I was kinda surprised that MJW3.1.1 has just about the best .PZ3 importer I've ever used. " Given the cost of Mojoworld - I think it's importer supplies probally the best bang for your buck in that class, Vue is the only other program to offer pz3 import without a seperate program - but even then you are getting up into their top end software (VI5) before you can import dynamic hair.

Yes, Vue 4 Pro and Vue Infinite come with Mover.

However, dynamic hair doesn't look the same in Vue. Link is to a tutorial on how to adjust it so it looks better.
