Nice one Shelia. I use the Epson Photo 830. really good quality. Only thing I have found is that if it is not used for a week or two the jets dry up a bit and block. Then it takes about 10 jet head cleans to get it going again. I think this probally happens with all ink jets. Have fun with it. Steve
oh congrat's shelia l have the epson stylus photo 1220... prints like a dream especially the black tone.. but canon have brought out printer that when setting to monchrome to print it adds a subtle tone of colour to bring out the black white tone slightly crisper... but way way over my price range.. so content with the epson... have loads and loads of fun shelia mwahhhh:)..))) nikki

Great choice Sheila. Though the print heads can be tempermental, I know you'll love the quality. Much better than that HP they provide as an alternate. I guess you decided you didn't want to print large after all, otherwise the R1800 would have fit the bill nicely. Still really enjoying that printer. I wish you many happy prints with it!

Kort, yeah we the R1800 was $200.00 more. The only difference was it prints a bit fast and prints larger sizes. we figure the few times we wanna print larger we'll just do it at Kinkos. Nikki, that's one reason we decided on this one because it does awesome with b/w. Glad to hear you love yours! Steve, thanks for that bit of info!!! Hopefully it's not a pain in the butt to do those jet head cleans. :)
Shelia. It's not a pain, just when you are in a hurry to do a print for a friend etc, there and now. You wait for a couple of mins while the print is coming out only to find one or two nozzles are blocked and you end up with lines across the photo. Otherwise I find the Epson fantastic quality. Also found using high quality photo (Kodak gloss) gives even better quality. Enjoy. Steve P.S. I allways used to buy HP printers but after about 13 months, 1 month after warantry finished they went wrong. 3 HP printers in 4 years, YUK.
Shelia, thats OK. I did not mean to put you off. This is what I found if the printer is not used for some time, usually during the winter when the heating is on. I allways now print a thumbnail off before a large print to check quality, saves loads of ink on a wasted large print. Still think Epson is the best.... Kodak gloss paper is wonderful........ We in UK sometimes great deals on Kodak paper from PC World. Not sure if you have them over there.
nah...you didn't put me off, Steve! :) I'm sure it's not a big deal.Hey, that's an AWESOME idea to print a thumbnail first!!!!!! Thanks for that tip!!!! we spent a LONG time reading reviews and listening to input from people here, and i know we could have spent MORE money and gotten a better Epson, but we both felt like from everything we read, this was the way to go for photos for the price. We have our other printer for text printing. :) not sure what kind of deals we can get on paper, but believe me, i'll be lookin'!!! Thanks, again, Steve!
Yes, blocked heads are a real pain- it makes the proccess real expensive. The previous generation of printers didn't print so fine but never tended to block up, you could reliably use them in a professional capacity. Epson seem to be bad for this fault. HP have a totally different system, but I don't know much about them other than in general office situations. Epson have just bought out a new A3 printer with superior printing qualities, similar to the R800 but with better inks I think, ie more shades of black/grey.

Epson Stylus Photo R800. not the best; not the worst. Cost was $349.00. It's not network compatible but we decided that wasn't necessary. we're keeping our other printer for text document and using this one strictly for photos. We printed a couple out and they are AWESOME!!!! already have one framed and hanging on our walls!!! :)
