Attached Link: DAS BOOT...

file_150029.jpg

'DAS BOOT' This is an image I posted to the gallery about a week ago. It was taken the same day just outside Buffalo in "Evangola" state park. The background is lake Erie which is frozen at this time of year and looks like an Arctic wasteland. The figure in the boat is 'Cody' my stepson. The photo was taken with our Nikon Coolpix 880 3.4 megapixel camera. A little post production was done in Photoshop to boost the contrast. I cropped to this shape and darkened the edges with a slight vignette. Let me know what you think????

I like this picture. I has a cold, futuristic, scientific, arctic look and a fantastic contrast. I wonder how it wouldlook like in color. Less dramtic I think. Is it originally a B&W-picture?

Thanks. Splint, it was originally color. I have always loved black and white. You have described how I feel about this photo well.

It is a good picture because you could have told me that it whas in the north and i whould have believe you..the fact that you use vignettage made it more north realistic and have given the picture an effect of documentary that we are often use to see in video report.

I missed this in the Gallery but I love it! It looks as splint said and more! I can't believe that's Lake Erie! It looks like it was touched by the finger of God and frozen in time. Great work!

Lisa, et al, I wish you could have seen that beach. Amazing, the waves on the shore were frozen, like drifts...We threw heavy rocks out to see if they would sink in as we were tempted to try and walk out there, but there was water underneath. We found some great pieces of driftwood, and Colm took some great photos....We both saw the Cody picture, but damn it, he got the better shot than me....:( Another place we are going to go photograph is Youngstown New York, on Lake Ontario. At old Fort Niagara you can look across the Lake and see Toronto, one of my favorite cities. And up at Niagara Falls, in the deep of winter, it is like a frozen winter wonderland. Trees are encrusted with ice, and it is a monochrome photographers paradise...very naturally sepia toned, and quite breathtaking. syyd
