Subject: Two (probably very stupid) questions...

Sabra ( ) posted Sun, 14 August 2005 at 11:19 AM · edited Fri, 27 December 2024 at 4:35 PM

I'm very new to Poser and Bryce so please excuse me if I ask the obvious. My first question is: when working with Victoria, Poser 6 seems to add loads of empty morphs to the body (named "-"). I don't know how to prevent this, and if there is a way to delete them all at one time, cause removing them one at a time would take a lot of time. Second question: when I import a Poser object into Bryce it won't show any hair. I export from Poser in Wavefront format, I added the hair in the hiearchy window, and I tried checking all the boxes in the next window, but it just won't show in Bryce. :( Help would be appriciated. Again, sorry for the newbie questios, but I just can't figure it out. Sabra

The morphs you see added to Victoria are empty channels. Don't worry about them, they don't add any weight to the figure. There is a utility available from DAZ - Dial Cleaner - which will get rid of them but they will reappear so just forget 'em if you can. Can't help with the hair q, unfortunately. I have Bryce but never used it. BTW, don't be apologising for the questions. The only stupid question is the one that nobody asked.

If the hair is Dynamic, then it won't be transferred to Bryce.

I don't know..I've heard both that you can and can't transfer dynamic hair (this was discussed in the Bryce forum awhile back), but personal experience is that you can't..

It's possible that Bryce may import the guide hairs, but I've never tried, as they're not much use by themselves (all the real work is done by the Hair shader node).

Dynamic hair is called strand-based hair in Poser 6. It doesn't export well as .OBJ, so Bryce cannot import it. The other hair type is called transmapped hair. Transmapped hair exports nicely as .OBJ, but you'll have to reapply the transmaps in Bryce. What you can try is using DAZ|Studio as an intermediate. Try to import your scene into DAZ|Studio (warning: dynamic cloth, dynamic hair and magnets will no longer work, DAZ|Studio doesn't have them!) and then export using its Bryce exporter. I haven't used this route in several months (older beta of DAZ|Studio, and working with Bryce 5.01), and at the time it didn't work very well, but if you have Bryce 5.5 and a recent download of DAZ|Studio there's a good chance it will work. DAZ|Studio is a free download from www.daz3d.com
