I think most people are aware of the free animation/movie editor VirtualDub found on the Web. It works great, and a lot of plugins can be found for it. However Ive never seen anyone mention Wax or WinMorph (link). Wax is a high performance and flexible video compositing and special effects software. The idea for Wax is to be very general purpose and flexible in video compositing and effects, so that you can compose your dream video sequence with ease everytime. WinMorph has Intuitive shape-based morphing. advanced keyframing, blending and distortion toolsand can do dynamic morphing (also called video morphing). Since Im having such a blast with them. I thought Id pass the link on to you. Have fun,SWAMP

Wax looks like it is a really useful tool. I will get to play around with it at some time. I knew this program was around a while ago

I have Premiere 6. Is there any advantage to these programs that I may be missing? It never hurts to have a loaded arsenal to work with.

"I have Premiere 6. Is there any advantage to these programs that I may be missing?" The Wax program claims to be a video compositing and special FX application, so it's probably closer to what can be done in AfterEffects rather than Premiere. I know Premiere can do some compositing and effects too, but it's primarily a video editor. If Wax is easy to use, and has some powerful features, i might give it a shot. However, right now I'm using Combustion 3.

Well I don't know what effects you can do in Premier, but you can use Wax as a plugin to Premier. Using it as a plugin you can use the built in and DirectX FX effects and also access Photoshop plugins (course I don't no that you can't already do that now). Its the WinMorph program that I doubt Premier (and perhaps even AfterEffects) has anything similar to. DL it (around 3mb), as it has several Flash demos of what it will do.

"(course I don't no that you can't already do that now)"....Good God that was auto spelling and grammer corrections by Word 2004 (I think I'll stick to Word 2000). Anyway...Yea I found these programs when I went looking for "Wink". Wink is fantastic for doing tutorials.

Thanks for posting this! This looks exactly like the kind of thing I was looking for. My only question is this: was anybody else able to finds a terms of use page or listing for the Wax software? It kinda bothers me that I'd didn't see one...

Listed under features: "Distributed as freeware for business or personal use. However if you want to redistribute Wax, you need to get permission from the author."

Also, for those looking for a more advanced solution (also free AND opensource, as well as multi-platform), there's Jashaka.

xantor ( ) posted Mon, 15 August 2005 at 5:17 AM

Jashaka uses open gl, so it wont work for some people.
