Attached Link: 3D Cafe

Should be some birds here. Click "Free Stuff" from the menu on the right, then select animals/insects.

those arent for bryce. this sucks. im going nuts. and i dont want to download poser just for a bird.

ddaydreams ( ) posted Tue, 16 August 2005 at 10:23 PM

Some files must be imported to open in bryce properly. Rather than dragging them in. Maybe that's why you cant open stuff from 3dcafe.

does anyone got a bird they can send me?

xenic101 ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2005 at 12:10 AM

File>Import Object Bryce can import .obj .3ds .prj .t3d .3mf .b3d .dxf .x .lwo .lws .pgm .hf .cob .scn .ddf .dem .vsa .wrl .elev and .nff objects. As of now, there is no such thing as a plug-in for Bryce. Creepy Clowns objects are in .obj format. wait, just read that clearer, nevermind.

grylin ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2005 at 4:25 AM

hm. bryce can import obj models :)d.load the ones u want, any place near ur bryce folder, unzip. open bryce 4, then; 'import', then it should d.load the obj. for ya. or u'll have t locate the file (i do) i have b5 :)i think creepys models were modeeled in wings... ?? not b2 :P good luck ;)

Bryce 2 files should open in B5. Try 3dCafe and Rend freestuff for your 3d models.

ok i got them to work. thanks. but my problem now is that the ones i got are blocky and dont look like birds at all. what can do do to make them look like some sea birds

grylin ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2005 at 9:21 AM

smooth the meshes. load object, edit mesh (the little E when the mesh is highlighted red, and as for textures, i make my own :) so u could try. also, put the birdys a bit in the distance and rotate them a bit etc.. good luck

you can alwats go download DAZ Studio(its free) and buy the birds from their site or find some poser files of birds then import them into DAZ Studio and export them so you can import the file into bryce.. These are the only two i have imported into Daz Studio but at the moment. PS: Nope sorry wont send them to you because its agains the law(copyright)

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

angelusnhc, If the objects come with textures you will (probably) have to apply them in Bryce's materials room. Alas if the objects don't come with textures then there's no easy way, unless you want to fork out some money. If you are any good with a paint program, then you can create your own textures, but you'll have to learn how to use something like UVMapper (by Steve Cox, still a free version available I think) to create a UV Map. Then create your own texture, fitting the lines in the map for the plumage. It's not an easy task. An alternative (I almost spelt that alTERNative, a Tern being a seabird, but didn't..) is to take/acquire photos of birds, preferably on an uncluttered background, then create a transparency map from it and apply both to a square. Sorry, I'm not a good teacher. There are many in this forum who could explain/clarify better what I've just said. I hope they notice this thread and do so.. Cheers, Diolma
