Subject: OT--but def. Poser related

picnic ( ) posted Fri, 23 February 2001 at 4:35 PM · edited Wed, 07 August 2024 at 9:25 PM

Its related to Poser because I'm in trouble for making textures w/o the use of my tablet S. I have new machine, WinME OS (my choice, BTW). My Wacom Intuos serial tablet loads, but you can see the driver icon change as the boot continues and becomes--nonfindable. I've deleted everything I can think of that might affect it--and no luck. The best way to get tablet to work is--do an uninstall with add/remove, reboot, use setup of most currect Wacom driver (for ME) and I can use the tablet that session. When I reboot it is gone. When I look at 'details' after it says the uninstall was successful, it says that tabhook.dll is in use. I do not know what this driver is for--and if it is having any affect. I have contacted Wacom with all particulars, but no luck yet. A Wacom person on one of my ngs said that Palm Pilots and faxes affect it--I have neither. Jeff--if this is in wrong place, please move S. I just thought I had a shot at hitting the most people and 'maybe' someone might have a clue. Thanks all, Diane

I feel for you :-{ I had Cable installed and now I can no longer use my Wacom tablet. I get a message that it's not responding and I've tried everything. I'll go back to slow downloads before I give up my tablet:-) I hope you can solve your problem. Claire

Claire, I have cable too---BUT--I had it with Win98SE also and had no problems. I did read on my Paintshop Pro ng that one person solved their problems by the order in which they installed their modem/tablet, etc. They uninstalled their tablet, installed their modem and then installed the tablet--and that worked. Might be worth a try. My modem was installed before I installed my tablet--and as I vaguely remember, I believe the tablet worked fine for several weeks. It did have a problem with 'hibernation' on ME--wouldn't work until I DID reboot it. I now have it set for 'always on'. It appears that something I did since then has caused the problem, but I'm at a loss. I uninstalled Napster (yes, folks--was trying to find old John Gorka tracks that are unavailable now), Music Match, and Liquid Player--that didn't help. I thought sure that they were the culprits. this is probably a silly question, but are you using the driver release for windows ME (driver version 4.55-R3)located at http://www.wacom.com/productsupport/me.html just a thought, its listed separately on the left banner of the support page below all the FAQ's. ZW

actually, my mistake, its version 4.56-6 or the beta 4.57-2, the driver on the above link is older, probably the first official ME release. ZW

Have you tried deleting your "wacom.dat" file and rebooting? I used to have a problem like that for over a year with my tablet until I had a crash and had to restore EVERYTHING and than had no problem whatsoever. Go figure. Win98 BTW Larry F

I would say that it is a safe bet that 'tabhook.dll' is related to tablets. You could try renamimg it in Dos to tabhook.dll.old and then try reinstalling your tablet. You would have to be in 'real DOS mode and not a window to do this. If by any chance your computer goes weird after renamimg the .dll, you can always change it back to it's original name in Dos. Maybe make a backup copy beforehand too.

Yes, have newest ME driver, yes tried deleting the .dat file and let it rebuild (found that on a FAQ related to the Graphires but worth a shot) and, Colm, I haven't tried that. That's worth a shot. Thanks all very much. Diane

Well I found my problem :-) I suddenly noticed that the green light wasn't on (well duh!) and realized that the technician hadn't plugged the adapter in properly - it was kind of balanced on the power bar and looked like it was. That's the trouble with all those wires back there -kind of hard to see what's going in. I started tugging on them one at a time and then I saw the problem. Now that was easy LOL PS - Diane, I use Napster for the same reason. Old songs that are no longer available and for ones that I bought on tape and would now like on CD and am too damn lazy to bring the tape deck over to the computer :-) Claire

I am breathing a sigh of relief G - I found it very frustrating to be without my tablet. Never realized just how much I used it until I was without and it was horrible to try and do the things with the mouse. Good luck with your tablet :-) Claire

I have a newly installe Wacom Graphire table. Two times out of three, when Iboot my Mac G4 Os9, if is not recoginzed. When I unplug the USB connector, and then replug it, everything works fine. This is bizarre, but it seemsto work. Anyone else experiencing anything like this???????

Hmmmm What you say is very interesting jmwiit. I am wondering if the whole thing is not USB related. I am looking at buying an Olympus E-10 SLR digital camera and the brand new Digital Wallet from Mindsatwork for moblie storage ($499 for 6 gigs of storage and the mobile drive takes data from Flash cards, smart media, IBM microdrive etc). Now I was just reading a review of the Digital Wallet and one of the problems that frequently arose was that if the D.Wallet (USB) was connected while the 'puter booted it was often not recognised. The solution was to connect it after full boot. I wonder if it might not be similar for the Tablet and some other USB devices? Just a thought. Regards STORM

Storm, mine isn't USB (wish that it was--but I bought it before Wacom had USB). However, wierd though it is, I just booted my computer and the driver loaded fine. It started with saying that a new hardware was recognized and looking for the driver. I had uninstalled and loaded the driver last evening while I was working--and this was the first boot after that. It generally 'drops' the table on loading, but not this time. However, I expect it will next time. BTW, this is sort of irrelevant, but I use a USB Kodak digital camera. I leave the USB cable connected all the time and just hook the camera when I need it(which is, of course, after the computer is booted). It immediately recognizes the camera and loads. My Wacom always worked in 98SE--I hate to even consider reformatting and going backward, but.... Diane
