Subject: Question for all Poser users

Hi just doing a bit of research re Poser content, as a regular Poser user, do you tend to use other software such as Bryce or Vue for your scenes if they involve more than just a portrait or figure render? I'm basically trying to get an idea if it's worth some of the hassle involved in making major props Poser friendly, such as rooms or buildings. Thanks for your input. Brian

I have Vue4 but I don't use it much when doing my images. I tend to use Poser for all things, I'll use the DAZ cyclorama for instance for backgrounds or the RDNA microcosm, Poser buildings are good to, like Stonemasons stuff and mapps buildings etc. No I'd much prefer to use all things within Poser, buildings, terrains etc. thefixer, poser coord.

I have Bryce but I have never used it. I only use Poser. One day I'll fork out for Maya and learn it properly - I started using it in my previous job - but other than that, I have no current plans to use anything else.

I play with Vue and Bryce sometimes, but I enjoy doing all of my "real" renders in Poser. Just seems more fun doing the whole thing in one program. If you take a glance at my gallery, you'll see i've managed to get pretty good results from Poser, and i don't normally do portrait-type pics or closeups. I was especially pleased with the Runaways and Susie-Lou pictures for landscape effects. http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=leather%2Dguy

All Poser here.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

Rachel_R ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2005 at 4:07 PM

I only use Bryce or Vue if I have to (cause I haven't conquered their lighting)...if a product is not Poser friendly, I don't buy it. And if it was something I really wanted, then I usually whine and gripe alot to myself before I move on.

I have bryce and shade, but i do the vast majority of my images entirely in poser. I rarely buy things that are not made for poser and I wont buy things not made for the programs I have. reason being ive tried importing non-poser stuff into poser (free stuff) and it requires a lot of repair (and sometimes cant be repaired). I'm not going to spend money on something that may or may not work in poser.

I use Bryce for backgrounds like skies and terrain's and such all the time. It's quick, easy and very satisfying.

xoconostle ( ) posted Wed, 17 August 2005 at 4:47 PM

In general, I render in Poser for more intimate or close-range scenes; always for portraits. I prefer to export to Bryce or Vue for larger-scale scenes that involve buildings, landscapes, or large numbers of figures.

Where to begin; I use Bryce, Wings 3d, Blender, the Gimp, Corel Draw, and Mojoworld..the things I go through for backgrounds..;)

I use sometimes Vue, but normally I setup the whole scene in Poser and import the *.pz3 in Vue. So I like to have the props and figures poserized, even if I render in Vue.

Thanks everyone, looks like a generic one model fits all seems to be the favourite then. I'll keep Poser friendly! Cheers Brian

Vue when landscapes are involved, but usually in Lightwave through Propack. I doubt that I have rendered from Poser more that 10 times. Lightwave is friendliest to me :)

I 99% of the time only buy stuff usable in Poser. And as of couple weeks ago, that has now gone to 100%(poser stuff/3ds/obj/lwo no more .vobs). I render in Vue normally, still learning Shade. That said Poser stuff is always user friendly as it can exported out in various formats if need be. Anyway, now don't all the majors now accepts .PZ3's?. So why buy any other format. All the way around less hassles.

Poser. I set up my scenes in Poser, much easier for precise positioning. I often render in Vue.

Use vue, video, photos, and poser for backgrounds. Then render the final figures over the top.

Poser (ProPack) for 99% of stuff, DazStudio for displacement fun, Terragen for sky/mountain backgrounds.

When I first started to create digicomics, I used Poser 5 for figures only and Vue 4 and later 5 to render and create scenes. Vue has two major problems, it is way to system demanding and always is hunted by bugs (even bug fixes tend to activate new bugs). A Vue release never seems to get a to a final good working release, before the next is due already. After a while Vue never brought the results I wanted and working with it just wasn't pleasant. Then Poser 6 came, all of the improvements were just what I needed. After I found out about MicroCosm & Terraformers I really wondered why I even needed Vue (or any other landscape progam at all). Poser 6 is very suitable of indoor and outdoor scenes and imo it's power is overlooked far to often. The P6 rendered is very powerfull and I do find Poser much more user friendly then a lot of other 3D apps. I'm creating all of my scenes in Poser 6 now. That involved indoor, outdoor and portraits, Poser 6 suits all of my needs..... expect for one. Poser isn't really suitable for modeling, but neither is Vue. For modeling I still use TrueSpace 6 and import my models in Poser 6. If only they would add another room to Poser I would be very happy. The Modeling Room is really needed. I've also used Bryce in the past, but importing poser stuff always has been a hassle. Even tried v5.5, but since DAZ destroyed it and still refused to add direct poser import, I returned it quickly again.

Artwork and 3DToons items, create the perfect place for you toon and other figures!

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

I only use Poser to render figures, and then assemble them in Paint Shop Pro.

Depends on what I want from (or in) the final image. I do a lot of my rendering in Carrara Studio 4Pro using Transposer(2). Lighting is much easier in CS, and true HDRI makes getting good lighting snap. Plus CS is multithreaded (takes advantage of multiple processors), and CS 4Pro has a 5 node render license - which makes rendering MUCH faster! Now if EF would just get the SDK out so Eovia could fix Transposer to support P6.

This is an interesting question and the answers have been very informative to me.

Personally, I find it easier to learn one program well than to switch back and forth between programs. I model with Carrara; I have Transposer, but I have never used it.

When they add an easy-to-use modeler and Photoshop-clone software to Poser, will I be in heaven?

GabrielK ( ) posted Sat, 20 August 2005 at 2:03 AM

I almost never use Poser for my final renders. I use Poser 6 to set up my figures and occassionally props, depending on what they are. Everything gets brought into Carrara 4 via Transposer, where positioning and composing of my scenes are done, and finally rendered. For me having Poser friendly props isn't a total necessity but it is usually convenient. Especially for things like weapons or clothing accessories.
