Subject: Pine trees? XFrog perhaps?

Anyone have any ideas on how to do or where to get pine trees? I dont see any in the library. BTW, I think that user-created tree-packages for sale/download would be a nice addition that would benefit many, especially those who dont have the $ for XFrog.

I have the ones from Xfrog - XLT I might add. There is a great conifer freebie by ThomasKrahn here in the free stuff area.

Ryan, There are going to be some nice pine trees for sale in Vue vegetation format (so you get random variants) available from Cornucopia3d.com, but I would wait till they work the bugs out of everything before going through that. Also, you can pillage the sample scenes available with Vue, I know that there are a few pine trees in there as well that look pretty decent for mid range objects. Also, a word of warning, if you're going to use anything for commercial work make sure the freebie item says that's ok or at least check with who made it before using it, better safe than sorry :) Oh, and DLK is right, xfrog plants are really great, especially for close ups, and thomaskrahn's free conifer works really well as well (can't remember if it's com or non-com only though).

Ryan...I have both Xfrog 3.5 Full and XFrog Tune and it is a great application....but, I would recommend you seriously think about just purchasing the CD's of the VOB versions of the plants if you have no interest in creating your own models. Worth a thought if you have not thought of that option. Ok at about $150 a CD they aren't cheap, but there is no arguing about their quality. I have the Basic, Europe 1 and USA West collections and I rate them very much....well I do for the work I do :)One thing that goes against them is theie file size, but then again that is why I also purchased XFrog Tune....obviously this isn't an option with the VOB option :( Cheers

RDNA has lovely pine trees! They are down for maintenance right but should be back up tonight or tomorrow but check out their store as they are quite reasonable. :)

Just a quick question since I couldn't seem to find it on their site, I'm assuming all their products are for Poser?? Which of course you can export to Vue, but only if you actually have Poser.

Nano - if the item is in .obj format you really don't need Poser, just import the .obj & then apply the maps. In this case, I just checked & the pines do have assoc. geometries(.obj)

I believe this would include all CR2's but not the props, I don't think the props have an associated geometry. I just looked at a prop file & didn't see one. If I'm wrong someone correct me about the props. Edited: I just tried it. It works. That said, you'd either have to create an alpha, similiar to what have to do with Xfrog trees, as the leaves have black boxes around them instead of being tranparent. So, a little more work but do-able.

Thanks dlk for clarifying that, much appreciated! I myself do have poser so it wouldn't be an issue for me but I wanted to make sure Ryan knew that about those particular trees.

Attached is a link to some free xfrog plants. :o) You may find a file extension you can use without having to buy xfrog lite.

Some will probably disagree, But I think Poser at this point is a superb investment if nothing else than all the content offered & it's flexability with all the other major programs. Quite frankly that's all I use it for....load up/pose if necessary then export if need be or save as PZ3. All the majors now accept PZ3 format, so it makes it even more appealing at it's low price. As well as it's ability to export in all major formats, really a no holds barred type of thing.

I myself tried to get to understand Poser and failed! Too many file formats, ugly figures, and strange muscle behaviour where arms & shoulders meet. I guess this is not a problem for the pros, bacause I've seen great Poser renders in the Vue or Poser gallery. Shame I can't understand this program! Pine trees are indeed coming with Cornucopia, should be a matter of weeks ( I'm not too optimistic for a sooner reopening of the store, given that E-on has to come with a clean Vue update so we can use our shopping cart). Xfrog plants rule, but the problem is there is no SolidGrowth with non .veg files, which means no variations of the plant.

So wait, I can just import files from the xfrog cd's into vue? What format does xfrog use?

Xfrog uses it's own format .xfr, but the cd's come in many formats, 3ds, .lwo, c4d... Actually the new plant collections on DVD even come in the .vob format. Neat, don't you think?

Be sure to check out Renderosity's Front Page News. Paula has recently written two reviews on Xfrog ... One on Xfrog 3.5, and the other on XfrogTune. Paula's reviews also include helpful information pertaining to the program, and may have the answers to some of the above questions. Dee-Marie

dik30341 - true, most (tho not all) Poser props have no obj files (the geometry is embedded within the prop, Poser default). But all you have to do is export the prop in any of Poser's supported formats:-)). Instant .obj file... Cheers, Diolma PS: Mind you, if Vue supports prop import, then I suppose there's no point.. unless you want to import prop into 3D modelling app and "improve" it..:-))
