Subject: Renderosity site problems "SQL server has gone away..."

Since the middle of the week I've been having intermittant problems on Renderosity, where pages come up headed with error messages from the backend database. Since the logo image at top left of this screen has changed I assumed that they were doing some work on the site, but I haven't seen anything posted about it. Is it just me, or have other people been kicked out of the site this week? Bit of a pain if it wigs out while I'm downloading something I've bought...

I've gotten the same problem a number of times over the past year, perhaps more frequently lately (once or twice or something a week).

Seems to be happening almost nightly - which is when I tend to visit mostly. Had stopped for about week - for me at least - then began all over again. Conversely, the site seems faster, i.e., page refreshes and turns happen quicker, AND, the number of surfers seems to be steadily higher, i.e., about 4000 just now. Or is that another anomaly?

Yep, I get this quite often. In fact, I was just able to log back on.

My idea of rebooting is kicking somebody in the butt twice!

The same problems here every day in this week.I noticed the huge number of surfers as well.Maybe it's because we have full moon tonight.;-)

That's "MySQL server." SQL Server is a real database. They're improving the capabilities of MySQL but I really think at the size and number of users this site now generates, they need to move to an enterprise calss database, Oracle, POstgress, SQL Server, etc. Either that or there's something really wrong with their setup. The way it keeps spitting out query strings seems like a security breach waiting to happen.

I occasionally get this, sometimes after the more frequent (for me) "too many connections" error. I sometimes get this latter error when there's "only" 1800+ users. Personally, I suspect that 'Rosity's server and/or database would prefer to be a hermit, alone in a cave in the mountains and keep away from crowds..:-)) Cheers, Diolma
