Subject: No frown for Jesse? (Poser6)

I've been trying out Poser 6 for the firsttime today, and it's no picnic, to be sure-- everything was crashing until I applied a service patch, and now it works ok but very slow-- and I have a spanking new Mac G5 with 4 gig of memory! I was working with the hi-rez Jesse with FBM, and I noticed something odd-- she doesn't have a frown dial on her settings. Is this a bug on my copy, or did they just decide she didn't need one? I mean, I guess you can get a frown with negative settings of the smile dials, but that's a very odd omission. This character is a big improvement over the P5 female, but still pretty limited, it seems. I guess as I work with her more I may learn the secret of humanizing her. Does anybody know if the cover from Poser 6 Revealed was based on Jesse? It doesn't seem possible, frankly!

" Inside the front cover of the book image credit is given to Catherine Harders of Mec4D.com. She's a member here who's known for making superb textures, and has posted a number of excellent tutorials and tips regarding the capabilities of Poser6 recently. You might try asking her what mesh she used.

Actually, Jessi has much, much, much more useful expression morphs than V3. It's one of the most positive aspects of Jessi as far as I am concerned. The names may need some getting used to, but once you tried a couple of combinations, you'll never want to go back. The same, by the way, holds for the face morphs that RDNA sells. Much, much more versatile than the standard DAZ morphs for Vickie, in my opinion. If you don't believe that Jessi can look good, take a glance at my gallery. And no, I am not acquainted with e-frontier in any way. :-)

Odf-- Very nice work you have on display in the gallery! I think that's the best use of Jesse I've seen. One of the reasons I was confused about the frown is that the online manual refers to it. Jesse has some welcome innovations, especially in how the mouth and jaw work. I'm not convinced that she supercedes V3, or that James supercedes Mike or David. All of these models have flaws to them. For instance, there seems to be a grotesque bug in the way the P6 hands look sometimes, as if the fingers have been chopped off and grafted back on crooked. And Jesse's shoulders are way too exaggerated. What I like best about the P6's is that they have relatively ordinary proportions. They don't look like a supermodel or a football player, and that's definitely a step forward.

joezabel, you're absolutely right. There are some serious problems with the way the Poser 6 figures are rigged. As I don't know enough about modelling, I can only speculate about the quality of their meshes. But from what I hear, I suspect that Anton's Apollo Maximus and his future female counterpart might be the models of the future. Or some others that we haven't seen yet. Anyway, all I wanted to say is that one can do amazing things with the P6 figures once certain quirks are overcome.
