Poser 12: Inches (Poser(PC) user since 1 and the floppies/manual to prove it!)
This is another of Poser's oddities... For the dial, (nothing plugged in) "1.0" = totally transparent, whilst "0.0" = totally opaque. Fine so far. BUT plug a grey-scale into it (where, in effect, black has value "0.0" and white has value "1.0") ... and the white parts are opaque and black is invisible..:-)) Now, when I went to school (many years ago), 1 x 0 = 0 and 1 x 1 = 1. So who switched the rules?? Don't you just love Poser?? Cheers, Diolma
Hi John, Your mathematical analysis is interesting but doesn't really apply here because ... The value for the transparency function is not multiplied, added, or combined, per se, with the "map" (values) that is (are) plugged into it. The transparency value is used thusly: 0.000000 = 0% of input = N0 transparency (regardless of plugged in map (values)) 1.000000 = 100% of input = MAX transparency (depending on the map that is plugged in) The values of the map (image) may be thought of like this: Where the (transmap) image is WHITE, the texmap will be visible ... (like a piece of white paper that can be drawn upon ... and what is drawn can be seen) = but = Where the (transmap) image is BLACK, the texmap will be invisible (i.e., transparent) because there is no (white) light to illuminate the texture and make it visible. There, now it should be as clear as ........... mud? ... Yes? Poser uses math, to be sure, but it doesn't always use it the way we think it should, n'est pas? cheers, dr geep ;=]
