Subject: Looking for software to make Morphs

NomiGraphics ( ) posted Sun, 21 August 2005 at 9:45 PM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 5:05 PM

Ok, I'm about at my end here with making Morphs. Let me ask this question to those that make morphs on a regular basis, what program do you use? I'm tired of having to do so many work arounds depending on the software, is there one that handles the obj files properly back and forth from Poser? Or am I dreaming? :) I'm interested in anything at this point, cost isn't a real issue. - Noel

I use Zbrush and Poser magnets. Poser magnets are really awesome. And they take a tiny fraction of the time to learn as any app.

Yeah, I agree. Poser magnets. For a real dummy like me, they are the only thing I even half understand...LOL. Laurie

I've just started using the new Blacksmith3D for morphs. Seems promising. VERY promising actually. Best part is, it makes the cr2 and everything for you :oD

I saw a thread on that. What is the link?

I use magnets too - they're free, they're integrated with Poser, and they can affect more than one body part. *And* they make the CR2 for you. ;) If I want to do something that magnets can't do, then I use [Anim8or](http://www.anim8or.com/), a free modelling package. It can work on OBJ meshes at Poser's native scale without problems. However it can only really process one body part at a time - although there are ways round this, they're inconvenient. Blacksmith 3D is at the link. One day I'll find the time to try out the demo.

I have been playing a little bit with the demo for Blacksmith3D. So far, I am very impressed. I haven't had time to really explore it in full, but it does hold some incredible potential, especially for the price (Suite 2.0 is $149USD.) I still haven't tried the painting directly to the surface, but that really excites me.

I like ZBrush for making morphs. Anim8tor, Metasequoia LE, or Wings, are free modleling apps. Check the links at the top of the Modling Forum. You can do a lot in Poser by using magnets too, about 75% of my morphs are done with magnets. My "MirrorMags" in the Free Stuff can help to make symetrical morphs on opposite sides of a figure.

This is what you get when you have:
  • A (probably unhealthy) obsession with Severus Snape
  • Blacksmith3D
  • Michael 3
  • An evening with nothing better to do...

I like Blacksmith :oD

Just for fun I loaded the Steph petite obj into Hexagon and played around a little bit. I saved the obj out (just the head actually) and imported as a morph target in Poser. Nothing I'd actually want to use; it was just a test to see if it would even work without tweaking. It worked OK, although I couldn't figure out how to do changes symmetrically. Well, short of cutting the mesh in half and using Hex's symmetry tool anyway. Wasn't sure if that would mess anything up so I didn't try it.

NomiGraphics ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 12:51 AM

Did you have to do the normal enormous resizing with importing a Poser mesh into Hexagon? I thought of exploring Hexagon, but don't know much about it. - Noel

GabrielK ( ) posted Tue, 23 August 2005 at 2:19 AM

Actually the obj did come in REALLY tiny when I opened it in Hexagon. I think there's a demo at eovia.com if you want to try it out. Don't know how full featured the demo is though as I've never used it myself.
