I want to make a few second long animation with Infinite that consists of a medium-density forest of palm trees swaying in the wind. Do I have to apply the wind feature to each tree and not use EcoSystems, or is there a way to apply wind to the trees in the EcoSystem material iteslf?

Just go to the wind tag in the atmophere editor and set your wind settings, and it will apply wind to your trees in an eco system.

Wind doesn't work for ecosystems, only breeze.

You can set the following options in the dialog box, Breeze, Gusts of Wind, Fluttering of Leaves, and Influence of Wind Intensity at least thats what it says will have to do some tests to see what affects what in an eco system. Hope this helps.
