OK, I'm still having trouble with my future city WIP. The first image is the one I decided to work on. This is the brown/orange atmospheric one from my last WIP post; you can check that out with the above link. Since then I have added some more traffic, lights, reflections and removed the light rays. New is the end result, the blur image has a little depth blur applied. Is the depth blur effective? or does the other one look fine the way it is? Thanks guys;) Original ![Image hosted by Photobucket.com](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/sans2012/Red-setting.jpg) New ![Image hosted by Photobucket.com](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/sans2012/Normal.jpg) And with depth blur ![Image hosted by Photobucket.com](http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y118/sans2012/Blur.jpg)

I never intended to make art.

definetely with the depth blur, my only comment would be towards dimming the lights on the central round building (the light bouncing off from the sun). for some reason it just distracts from the image as a whole. otherwise, i'd like to officially invite you to join the list of people who i want to have babies with. excellent work! :) drac

Looking back, your right for sure, too much reflection. You dont think the blur version looks too, toy like? You want to have babies with me? Two men and a baby, hmm, Ive seen that one, It turned out really bad for the guys;)

I never intended to make art.

it doesn't look toy-ish, i mean think about it, it's a huge metropolis, there's bound to be polution and heat. you can't be able to see that far into the distance. and yeah, in regards to the kids.. you can ship them regular mail. if it's your first born, fedex is an option.. you know, whatever :) drac

DOF - yes, but I would suggest a finner setting for a bit less blur. Looking very good IMO.

The blurred version is too blurred. I actually like the non-blurred one better. Maybe a little less blur as Incarnadine says. Really a great looking scene!

Flak ( ) posted Wed, 24 August 2005 at 7:39 AM

I'd try for a bit less blur as well. Like the colours you've gone for. Are you going to add more city behind the city you've got there already?

@All of you Less blur, yep, I see what you all are saying. Cool! @drac Cool! COD on the way;) Flak: The problem with more city is, more city+more city+more, if you know what I'm writing, it never seems to stop mate:) I could try lowering the POV but, I'm not sure I want to do that. Cheers all. Back to the Bryce cave;) P.S. Good thing the blur is PW:)

Looking really good! I agree with the suggestions, and I think I know what Flak is saying...too much empty yellow space in the background. Very much looking forward to the final of this!!!

ysvry ( ) posted Wed, 24 August 2005 at 11:58 AM

definetely without the depth blur it looks too fake if you insist on using it do it more gradualy. If you want your picture to look like a foto use blur(blur ocured due to a technical imperfection of camera lenses so why copy it in thefirst place?) if you want the vieuwer to enter the world that is your picture dont.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Sans2012 ( ) posted Wed, 24 August 2005 at 12:06 PM

ysvry: It is fake!!! A photo? I don't want it to look like a photo. Blur occurs with the naked eye! Anyway, I'm trying to get greater DOF from the blur, not an imperfection;) Man, you got something against cameras or what? Cheers;)

I never intended to make art.

I love the blurred one, but concur with those who said to reduce it somewhat.

looking good and i'm sure most have commented on things that could improve it. One suggestion that i would like to make is if you look at the background of the image what do you see...a big open area, you could try placing a terrain there and making it look like hills/moutain or may be place a couple of the larger building out there to fill in that area and close some of the open background off.. Yes cut the blur down, dimn that light. Also use a couple of different kinds of spacecraftes in it..some thing like the big ones Osiris9 sells on the market, look like a big space bus. Oh i'm letting my mind drift here..sorry mate.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

I like the non blurred one. I feel the blurred one cuts off my sight of the city too unnaturally, and too close and until I read on down I thought the second image labelled "New" WAS the one with blur, to me it looks like the more distance areas are blurred already. And it doesn't look like a toy to me either, it looks like I'd expect if I was looking out of a transport's window onto the city below.
