Subject: saving scenes when vue crashes

bluevenus ( ) posted Sun, 28 August 2005 at 10:36 AM · edited Thu, 16 January 2025 at 6:53 AM

Argg... after working on a scene for a few hours Vue decided that it was high time to crash on me, and given that I had only saved the scene towards the beginning I've lost all my new work (I know, I know, save often!) Is there any way I can recover this scene? I don't think Vue did any kind of auto-save when it was crashing.. maybe some kind of magic faerie that rescues my lost scenes for me? :)

You can try to simply restart Vue. If there is an auto-save file Vue will tell you and ask wether this should be loaded. If this question does not appear then i fear...

Yeah, tried that, it just started with the default blank scene...

Some operations seem particularly crash-prone, for example, adding bump maps to reflective materials.

I built a new PC and figured it was time to also reinstall all software fresh. So did new install of Vue 5i and the latest beta build (patch). Now getting crashes after over 1/2 hr to 1 hr of working. Was super solid on my old PC (same amount of memory (1GB) and both Intel motherboards with P-4 processors. So now i suspect memory leaks in the latest build. Based on that, i close Vue every 1/2 hour and restart it - so far no crashes. Expect we will soon see the new build that fixes many problems and the Cornucopia issues - this one will probably be VERY well tested before release. Onwards & Upwards...

Aint it so that vue has a anti piracy thingy in it self that will make vue crash ever so often?

wabe ( ) posted Mon, 29 August 2005 at 2:16 PM

Yes it does, but we don't presume bluevenus is using a warez copy!

If he/she doesn't he/she should complain on the product then:)

No offense, but if we all followed that logic, we'd all be Warez users, since all here in this forum have experienced crashing episodes to varying degrees at 1x or another, doing various things inside Vue.

(I'm a she by the way RiffUlven) :) I'm not sure about the anti-piracy thing, but I figure every program is allowed to crash once in a while according to Murphy's law :)
