...and I'll show you mine. Runtime, that is. On raunchyminds we were discussing sizes and while mine is fairly big, it wasn't the biggest. And yes, we're still talking runtimes, I'm a girl, after all *L* Anyway... all innuendoes aside... How big is your Runtime folder? And does that include any PZ3's to boost the size? ;o) Here's mine. Apart from that, I have some things in my Poser 5 and 6 runtimes as well, everything that won't work in Poser 4 anyway (not that I use P4 for anything but testing anymore)

I thought that my main poser runtime being nearly 3 gigabytes was too big, but now it doesn`t seem so bad.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 01 September 2005 at 2:34 AM

Kinda put's things into perspective don't it? LOL! Oh, and the above doesn't take into account my Bryce projects at all! (Which I use for a lot of my backgrounds.)

3 Gigabytes? That's a tiny little baby Runtime LOL I saw one yesterday at 60-something G

Ever seen such small Runtime ? *grins* My HD I have Poser installed on is only 4.75 GB. I have to keep my Runtime small, below 1GB. There is also a folder where I keep all my works, WIPs and .pz3's on the same HD. My freestuff collected is other case, I keep it burned to DVD's - or my main HD would run out of space in no time (this compy is a shared one with my brother so we're really tight on space).

Word of advice to those using WindowsXP "bells&whistles", go to Control Panel->System->Advanced. Click Performance and select "Adjust for Best Performance" and Apply! :)

And to those of you using "WindowBlinds", please uninstall.

Doing the first will improve system and application performance nicely.

Removing WindowBlinds will increase performance significantly!!! ETA: These make for nice individuality and pleasant interfaces, but the cost is system resources and performance. Darn, I'm on a dual Xeon and I want every bit of speed that can be scraped off the bottom. Turn your 2000 hour renders into 20!

I'm sure about 5/6Gb's are Cr2's. I've been a bit lazy in the making of Mat's and Mor's. Looks like a good weekend project. Seeing this size I think I better defrag, haven't don that for awhile.

Wow, boasting in runtimes how cool. Now we all can see who spent the most on Poser stuff and so much stuff he or she will never be able to use. I've got no idea my runtimes are and to find out takes a lot of times, I've got over 20 runtimes. For each figure and category a new one, like M1, M3, P4, scenes, props, hair, animals and so on.

Even though my PZ3 folder is large it's only my newest stuff, previous files are saved to CD. This example is just for my P4 Runtime and PZ3s, Poser6 is still small at 1.11GB since I only save specific P6 files there. And my PZZ files for P6 only amount to 215MB. I still mainly use P4 for everything.

I can't show you my all-time HUGE runtime because Poser 5 simply would not work anymore and I deleted it. I was up to about 70 gigs. I have Poser 6 now, and it , LOL! Going to put another copy of Poser on another drive for the extra stuff. Haven't got the hang of seperate runtimes. Heard that's the answer.

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Thu, 01 September 2005 at 3:04 PM

You know I'm getting really fed up with people telling me how to run my system and to remove this because they don't like it or that because it slows down performance. I've never complained about slow performance or render times. I enjoy the configurability of the appearance of my GUI that WindowBlinds allows and I have no intention of uninstalling it. Just as I use Poser to make things that are pleasing to the eyes. I use Windowblinds for the exact same reason. It hasn't caused me any problems and I run my system how I see fit. I appreciate the information you shared about performance and WindowBlinds, but I'd prefer it if you just posted the information and left the judgement calls on whether to install or uninstall it to the end user. Nobody enjoys being told how to run things in their own home.

I try to be judicious in what I download and install, but I also need to install a new HDD :P

Sorry about that, Mizrael. Too abrasive sounding on my part. It's just that a constant topic here is on how slow Poser is, how unstable, how much resources it hogs. One of the reasons for this is having other things running and hogging resources. Without applications running, I only have 35 processes running (and I'd decrease that if it were at all possible - but I do have NAV on 24-7 which accounts for about 6 or 7 of those). Just something to consider before complaining about Poser's performance.

Wow RoyG! A runtime from the last century? XD As for the question someone asked: No, I can't find half my stuff, and that's even with it divided up in comprehensible bits with PBooost (which I love and adore and would never change for separate Runtimes) - and so far it's only because Daz TELLS you if you're about to buy the same thing twice that I haven't done so LOL I guess it's a sort of collectormania. I've bought lots of stuff (like the Spanish Themed stuff at Daz) that I know I'll most likely never use. But it was pretty and wow and... well... Heheh Petunia... I'm USUALLY very ... uhm... innocent over here ;o)

Like I said, I appreciate the information about how it affects my resources. I only took offense at being told to remove something based on complaints I've never made personally. As for processes eating up resources. AVG Antivirus runs three background resources, my HP printer runs another three resources. I use task manager to kill the ones I'm not using normally. WindowBlinds runs all of one process (Currently using 1,668k of ram and 0 CPU resources).

kuroyume0161 ( ) posted Thu, 01 September 2005 at 7:06 PM

Still sorry about that. I'm a little frustrated while following all of this continuing catastrophe in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. I think that my main point is that I don't run anything on my computers unless it is absolutely necessary (evil or not, as in the case of NAV). No Instant Messengers, no GUI boosters, no bells&whistles, nothing. I've seen too often naive computer users with a SysTray stacked with dozens of junk apps and services running (you can run, but you can't hide!) - and then they wonder why their computer runs so slowly and is unstable. By removing junk on my computer and disabling every unnecessary service, I regained over 20MB of memory - very useful memory. WindowsBlinds does rock. I used to use it (and even had their ObjectDesktop). In my case, it is an unnecessary luxury item. If you are pleased with it and it doesn't impact your system, then all power to you! :)

Thought mine was getting rather big, but seeing all of these, it's not so bad at all. About Windows: I prefer to run it as lean and mean as I can get it. 25 processes on my Athon64/WinXP SP2 when running no apps. I could reduce it to 23 processes when I stop the license services for 3DMax 4 and 3DMax 6. No antivirus or firewall. Not necessary, the machine is pretty safe behind a DSL modem with a built-in firewall and a Win2k3 NAT router running a good firewall and McAfee Corporate.
