This may sound picky but I'm probably doing something wrong. Over time I kept adding quite abit of Poser stuff, both free as well as from the Renderosity store and the DAZ people. About two days ago I started to remove some stuff that I no longer needed using the 'Remove from Library' command within Poser. Everything is fine. When I went back to check the actual files I noticed that entries under 'Geometries' had not been removed and some of those files are simply huge ! (Those damn robots alone are 20MB and I killed them all). Is there and easy way to check for unused Poser files eg broken links and have them removed ? I checked if there is a separate utility but couldn't find anything. Thanks.

I'd be interested in something like that also. I've been optimizing my Poser the past two weeks. Removed all the low rez people and hooked in some of the P3 and P4 people to jpg textures instead of tiff files. I kept the Robots though, might mess with them sometime.... Liz Pope Dreamspinner Inc.

Well, I had another look at the file structure. Looks like we'd need a little application that cross-references the *.obj's to the *.cr2's. Let me know if I'm missing something here but lets say an application would list all the geometry files and then scan the cr2's to see if they are a) ok, b) missing or c) orphans and color them accordingly, maybe even place a 'delete' button next to the orphans we could basically do automatic cleanup (well, this part at least - I like your idea of replacing texture Liz, would probably still keep a few high quality ones as tif though). Sure, other elements such as props would also have to be considered but it looks like pretty straight forward job (I'm not a full time coder but think I could get this one done). Any ideas ? That bothers me is the fact that no such utility is out there ... no need to re-invent the wheel :=). Pras

Something like that would be fantastic!! My geom dir is almost a gig and a half and I know some of it is no longer used. It would sure make life easier to have a program do that for us!!!

heyas; right, the - in the libraries only deletes the thumbnail and library file. the geometry directories (and textures too, btw) are left untouched. i thought one of the poser file browser utilities did something like that...? since i've never used one, i could be wrong. :)

I think this could be very dangerous- if you deleted a character you could also be deleting your P4NudeWoman object, and you might need it later. Best way would be do it manually. Next best way would be only download what you are going to use!

The idea isn't really to delete the geometries as you delete the character but you have a good point - this may well be teh reason why they leave them untouches when deleting a character. Another issues that may have to be considered : Is it possible to have an object mesh that is completely unused but that is absolutely needed for Poser to run ? I guess it is possible if you attempt a radical cleanup and leave nothing behind ... unlikely though. Well, I ran another test and wrote the code to collect all the object filenames as well as the portion to scan the *.cr2's (nothing else so far) for usage of the geometries. Since I have this other job (the one I go to every morning) too it may take a week or two until a working sample is available ... we'll see. I was also looking for the filebrowser bloodsong was mentioning but the closest thing I found was utilities extracting project files or placing them into the correct directories. A russian site had a utility that seemed to go in the right direction but Vicki alone too 45 minutes to scan shrugs.

heyas; pras, i think its called... p3do? it should be here in the free stuff, under utilities. its a poser file browser. dunno if it does/shows all the linking bits.

bloodsong is talking about Yarp's P3DO Explorer, available at http://lcrepiliere.free.fr/ He is always working on it. It doesn't show what OBJ is used by the Cr2. It is a good utility, though.
