Fortunately, I save my pics regularly and most of it is on CD but all the shots I took yesterday in London are gone!!! :( I had some fantastic portraits in there! Thx in advance gang! :)

What do you mean deleted on your pc hard drive or on your memory card ?

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

You can get them back from your memory card with software from the link above. That one costs $29 and it works before you pay. There are some freeware ones about too, search data recovery or photorecovery.

kemal says to download this freeware called PC Inspector. here's the link. when you get to the page, look at the bottom & you'll see download. you can download the freeware. Once you get that freeware downloaded, you'll see menus and such to see how to retrieve your files. kemal says he's used it a few times when he accidentally did the same thing and it worked...he got his files back. Kemal says the more you use your hard drive, the harder it will be to retrieve your files, so try to be careful about using your hard drive until you retrieve those files. Good luck, Pascale!

If you have Norton protected files, ..For instance on this PC I have windows XP Pro and my recycle bin is Norton protected. If I delete something...it stays and I can recover it. I also thought if you did a System Restore back a day or whenever with XP you can get back things.I know it works for programs and certain files...Have not tried it to recover images yet.

Also, there's something I don't get with that smart recovery thingie, it says that it's to recover datas from memory cards for digital cams and all. so I plugged my card reader but it doesn't seem to work. The thing is scanning my entire Drive C and it's only at 2% done and it's it's been on for about 1 and a half hour now!!! Any tips on how to use this faster Sheila??

tvernuccio ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 5:02 AM

i asked kemal if he knew a way to use it faster & he said he didn't know of any. :( sorry. he's in bed...half asleep. LOL! I'm on my way there too. it's after 6 a.m. here. I'll check back in the morning after he wakes up to see if you need more help. Keepin' fingers and toes crossed for you that it works! night night! :)

Oh ok! LOL!! Sweet dreams to the both of u! :) And thx again a million for ur help guys! :)

Onslow ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 5:29 AM

There is 'Smart Recovery' & 'File Recovery' on the site Shiela gave. Smart Recovery is for memory cards, File Recovery for pc hard disks.

Do you still need any help or do you already have that files back? If you're using CF cards and did not save any new images to this card, there's no prob at all in getting that files back ... Tom

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 8:38 AM

@Rich! I know dear!! I read that too! ;) That's why I downloaded the Smart Recovery version!! And the silly thing started scanning my entire drive!! LOL! @Raven: Got most of them back!! ;) And I'm SO pleased!!!! Thx u again a bunch for all ur help gang! U're the best! Yep! :D

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 9:36 AM

Indeed Teddy! ;)

Zacko ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 11:13 AM

YAY for you!!!! Im happy that you got your files back. What Tom is saying is true though, if you were to "overwrite" old files on your memorycard, i dont think theres a way to get them back. Not that information is useful anymore seeing you already got them back...bla bla bla...gonna head back to work now. Congrats Pascale!!! This is surely the place to ask such questions. #:O)

Yea, it's true indeed! But strangely, it gave me back a pic that's at least 5 months old!!! How weird!! But all the pics it found were the last ones I took indeed! Technology is such a marvellous thing! Sometimes....! ;)

Formatting a CF/memory/etc card usually just means it resets the FAT, ie quick format. The FAT (File Allocation Table) is a bunch of info so the drive knows where each file is located on the medium (think index in a book). The actual files are still there, there's just nothing pointing to them. Now by scanning the card sector by sector software can identify the data and reconstruct the images. So if you ever made embarrasing photo's of yourself and then borrowed your camera with card to a friend, make sure you really erased all data, just formatting ain't enough :)

Yay! glad you got your pics back, Pascale! How long did it take?

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 1:45 PM

I used another programme Sheila! And it only took about 5mns! I didn't get them all back but most of them! Only a few are missing! But man, I'm still happy with that, I can tell ya! ;)

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 1:46 PM

Oh and Thx for all the technical infos Rinze! ;)

tvernuccio ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 1:55 PM

Five minutes??? Wow! which program did you use? that's freakin' FAST!!!!!!

tibet2004uk ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 2:08 PM

Yes, but that's cos it scanned my memory card only! Not the hard drive! ;) And it's called "Digital Picture Recovery"! :)
