Subject: Does this displacment on the 2nd skin look ok?

LiquidRust ( ) posted Tue, 06 September 2005 at 7:01 PM · edited Wed, 27 November 2024 at 1:55 AM

I was wondering if the displacement looked "okish" on here? I know it's a bit strong...but I can fix that...how does it look overall though? I'm unsure of wether to include this in my final product...when it's finished.... http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1041270&Start=1&Sectionid=43&filter_genre_id=0&WhatsNew=Yes

Include it! It's very, very good. Better than any other second skin I've ever seen.

That's second skin? Impressive. Usually it's lingerie...nice to see that there are other options for second skins. It would be awesome to get something like that with a character addon :)

LiquidRust ( ) posted Tue, 06 September 2005 at 8:30 PM

Hmm....I should do more of these then. I don't want this one package to cost too much, and it's sitting right now at 12 bucks, so I'll create an expansion with a bunch of 2nd skins as well as different jewelry options, accessores, and other stuff...:D Thanks for the comments guys! You're so helpful! :D

You could package those second skins and their displacement maps as photoshop/PSP layers. That way a user could apply your second skins to other textures too. P5 and P6 users could use the Material room to add your second skins to an existing texture. Would make for a valuable package!

Although valuable hoping you will keep the price down. Thanks, Marque

LiquidRust ( ) posted Tue, 06 September 2005 at 9:44 PM

Oh my gosh svdl! That's a fabulous idea! My friend made the letter for me in photoshop, as I don't even own that. lol. But I'm pretty sure I could get her to make me all the letters of the alphabet and apply it to the chain all of course fitting inside the V3 body template...so you could apply it in Poser. Hmm...:D Marque: I'll of course keep the price as low as possible. :D Wouldn't want to overcharge anyone. :D

I've been experimenting with displacement maps in DAZ Studio and have had good results making veins and warts so far. I was going to try and see how well we could make clothing folds using displacement next, but you've shown that it can be done, and done extremely well. :) Your product looks great, and I'd love to see a set of displacement clothing fold PSDs that we could apply to any clothing texture to add wrinkles and folds. If no one makes an affordable set, I might have to give it a try myself though... ;) SnowS

I do not speak as a representative of DAZ, I speak only as a long-time member here. Be nice (and quit lying about DAZ) and I'll be nice too.

These are the best second skins I've seen so far.Excellent work. :-)

Looks as if everyone is in favour, then... So am I, by the way. :) Snowsultan said: "I'd love to see a set of displacement clothing fold PSDs that we could apply to any clothing texture to add wrinkles and folds." I wish to be associated with that comment. :)

My mind is blown! That is beyond a doubt the best 2nd skin ever... I have a texture in my "cart" that I think I have to bump awaiting your texture to come out. Terrific. Please keep it cheap, I hope you can make up the difference in volume :) Truly superb work. Also, I love the glossy lips and realistic eyes in http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1040363&Start=1&Artist=LiquidRust&ByArtist=Yes

If it looks that good you will more that make up the difference in volume. Marque

Is that render in P5/P5 or Daz Studio? From what I've heard Daz Studio does displacement better, but displacement can also be done in P5/P6 and Bryce. bB

Lyrra ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 3:56 PM

parts look excellent, but I see the inside seams of the legs need work and the shirt is showing some smearing at the sides. displacmeent is definately somehting to look at for secondskins. I've also been fiddling around with the new ShaderSPider to create partial Shader files to apply the skins over existing textures. And incidentally, remember that the the newer Ultra Body/cat suits from DAZ have unimesh mapped versions that take secondskin textures nicely (the david and s3 versions and I'm not sure which others) Acadia - Secondskin jeans are old hat .. DAZ has a slew of them as well as other clothing items, some more or less successful than others. Especially look for Gorodin there and at poserpros. Heck .. I've made some secondkin outfits myself :)

Looks nice, but can we post things like this in Product Showcase, before every noob and their dog start thinking it's ok to show off products/product WIPs here? Not trying to rain on your parade, but Im noticing more of these types of posts by the day, and most of us would prefer that things not get to a point where the mods have to take a stronger hand in the matter. It may not seem like much of a problem when such high-quality work is involved, but that isn't the standard that determines whether or not it belongs in Product Showcase or not.

nruddock ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 3:06 AM

The button on the jeans is missing.

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 10:21 AM

I love that the jeans are a little bit open (Turkey Dinner?) That's what I see at least, VERY cute. Maybe a little notch of the top showing there would be even cuter...

LiquidRust ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 6:34 PM

Oh sorry R Hatch. Didn't mean to post this in thw wrong section. Completely forgot. Sorry. :P Nruddock: The jeans are supposed to be open...with the button missing. Momodot: Same thing...I plan to make a closed version...but I was going for a certain thing here...kind of laid back...relaxed..."taking off my jeans" type of thing...I even made the top with just undies attached...:P

originalkitten ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 6:37 PM

What happened to this? Thanks, Marque

LiquidRust ( ) posted Sun, 27 November 2005 at 8:27 PM

Oh, well...my computer crashed and a TON of my files were corrupted in certain sections. Unfortunately, most of my files for this project are now destroyed, but it's ok because I've recently started on a whole new and MUCH improved version. I now have a sub to 3d.sk, but the quality of my work will improve also. :D Donna

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 10:42 AM

That kind of crash is miserable so you have my condolences but usually having another go at a project totally fresh even if it is not by choice has pretty great results... I would not mind if the Poser 6 development team had a "disc crash" and had to start their project over from scratch ;) Your first go at it was spectacularly wonderful... so keep up your spirits!

LiquidRust ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 3:22 PM

Well thank you so much! lol. Yeah, this whole package so far is turning out soooo much better than the first one. lol. I've only gotten the head texture to a good renderable point as of now, and the body texture is what I'm starting on today, then from there I'll make 2nd skins, makeup options, etc. :D Donna

momodot ( ) posted Mon, 28 November 2005 at 8:59 PM

Please post here or IM me to the test renders if you put them up :)

LiquidRust ( ) posted Tue, 29 November 2005 at 9:03 AM

Well, I did a little kind of crappy render yesterday just to give an idea of how much detail would be in the character...lol.. http://www.renderosity.com/viewed.ez?galleryid=1101607&Start=1&Artist=LiquidRust&ByArtist=Yes
