The freebies at CP continue to be great.... this new one is even huge! If you're into dinos, don't miss it. I'll hope this will not be the only dino, otherwise he'll be so lonely.

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

This is a really excellent freebie. It comes with a walk cycle, and a long "attack" animation, as well as some still poses.

Strixowl ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 10:25 AM

It's for Poser 6

randym77 ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 11:14 AM

It's got the OBJ in the Figures folder, but other than that, it works in Poser 5. You just have to go browsing for the OBJ the first time you load it.

Strixowl ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 12:02 PM

Thanks for the info randym77, Still got ProPak here :-(

It should work in Pro Pack, but the material room shaders won't. You can just use the texture without the nodes, though. I know, because I tried porting the critter over the Vue, which doesn't use Poser shaders, either.

This just the texture, in Vue. Looks a little too shiny without the displacement map, but you could probably fix that by adjusting the ambient setting and/or adding some kind of tiling bump map.

vilian ( ) posted Wed, 07 September 2005 at 2:16 PM

From all that freebie stuff from CP the only one that didn't like being launched in ProPack was the cat and the parrot (both fixed almost immediately by Sixus1). Shaders don't work, but textures are enough for the models to look good.

FYI, We updated the CR2 for this freebie. Apparently we did not deliver the final tested Cr2. You may want to doanload again as there were several problems. Also we'll be doing a series of these, we'd like to do 8 or so Dino freebies. Thanks, Steve

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 12:19 PM

Thanks, Steve, that's great news. I love dinos.

winter200 ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 1:00 PM

Steve are you taking requests? Aside from the Poser technical flaws, there are comparatively few anatomical problems with this critter (I'm used to creatures being far less like the actual creature they represent - from a distance it'd be hard to spot the inaccuracies in head, chest, and pubic area). Maybe I'll post a wish list. Ideally I'd want to avoid the triceratops becaus ethe DAZ one is fair, though the texturing is poor. But a GOOD stegosaursu would be nice and... Oh heck, let's do a wish list. If done to at least Brachiosaurs level (or pref. slightly better) bearing in mind I haven't confirmed the fixes yet, I'd love to see (not all strictly dinos): Stegosaurus. Nothosaurus maybe Coelophysis Oviraptor Scutellosaurus a Tyrannosaurid (T-Rex/Daspletosaurus/Tarbosaurus/Albertosaurus) Protoceratops Parasaurolophus Pterodactyl Dimorphodon An Anylosaur (maybe Eoplocephalus?) A Pachycephalosaur Chasmosaurus Titanis Obviously I have sorely amputated my "wish list" to prevent everyone falling asleep with boredom at the odd names - but the creatures themselves are excisint enough :D Cheers, Cliff

who3d ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 1:15 PM

Oh yeah, let's add a Dunleosteus (fish) to the wish-list while we're at it ;) Cliff

aeilkema ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 3:23 PM

My list is much shorter..... Pteranodon, T-Rex (of course), Styracosaurus and Triceratops. These are me and my kids favourites. My oldest daughter favourite dino was this weeks freebie, the Brachiosaurus. When she saw the brach rendered, she was really happy, especially when I told I might create a comic if there are more of them. The other kids started asking where there favourites are, the T-Rex (my son) and Styracosaurus and/or Triceratops (my other daughter). I had to dissappoint them, I hope CP doesn't dissapoint them, so I can make them happy too! Now you can figure out which is my favourite by yourself.

On deck is Parasauropholus with Triceratops batting(you guessed it)3rd, and Stegalosaurus in the cleanup spot. Those are already in the works, however I've passed on your requests to the artists for those Dinos to follow. Thanks for the feedback!

who3d ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 4:48 PM

A good parasaurolophus? Kewl. And we SO need a better stego (I don't like the one at DAZ). T-Rex has been a favourite since it was discovered, of course, but few models seem to really capture it to my mind :( aeilkema if Conent Paradise miss out any of your favourites, DAZ have all of them (for $$ of course) and more, including a bundle which makes them a BIT cheaper, though still way above CL introductory pricing. I quite like the DAZ trike actually :) aside from the texture, which has seam issues. www.daz3d.com Cheers, Cliff

And don't forget ScottA's page. He's got a bunch of free dinos:

http://66.66.155.99/

I'd like to see some feathered textures. It's become clear that velociraptor and related carnivorous dinos had feathers. Possibly even T-rex.

Thanks for the plug Randy. Don't forget that my site will be gone by the end of the month. I guess I should finish this thing at some point. I put it away and never went back to finish it. -ScottA

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 08 September 2005 at 7:32 PM

Eek! A terror bird. That's awesome!

He looks like he'd eat those DAZ chicken raptors for lunch.

who3d ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 3:06 AM

Kewl. I don't recall that Allosaurus offhand either - is he available for download anywhere? (there doesn't seem to be a download at that page). Cheers, Cliff

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 4:36 AM

For those who care about such things, I've posted a brachiosaur Mimic update at DAZ. The CR2 also has some joint tweaks for the neck.

randym77 ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 5:22 AM

Cliff, the dinos are all available for download. You have to click on the name, not the image.

who3d ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 7:17 AM

Ah! Lemme run along and grab the Allosaurus then (I saw the images had links so clicked them!) Cheers, Cliff

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 7:36 AM

takes notes Scott, why is your site going away? :-(

ScottA ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 8:49 AM

Because I'm going away. The economy is aweful here in upsate N.Y. I can't find stable work around here anymore. So I sold my house and I'm going to take some time to spend with family and figure out if there is some way I can do something on my own. I probably won't have internet access for a while.

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 9:18 AM

Aw, that's too bad about the work. If you need somewhere to put your models while you're gone, I can probably host them for you. Either that or I can have ynsaen put them up at Odd Ditty in the freebies section if you'd like. You might even want to consider brokering with us over there when you get back if you need some extra money. I like what I've seen of your work. :-) Best of luck to you. -Heidi

Thanks for the offer, But I really don't like selling Poser items. I've sold a couple of items, but somehow It feels dirty to sell things. It's supposed to be a hobby. And for me, giving things away has always been the real motivation for making them in the first place.

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 9:50 AM

OK, no problem. :-) Do you want me or ODF to host your free items for you? My site is not complete yet, but I've got my freebies section up. Here's a site link if you want to see it. Or ODF can host them for you in the freebies section if you'd rather. They'd probably get out to more people than if they were just on my site. Let me know either way. :-)

Of course you are not mistaken. :-) If you want anything else up just send, or let me know where I can get, it is no problem. Hoping things get easier so you can forget the hard times. Good luck and many blessings to you and your family. As trite as it may sound to some, you are most fortunate to have each other. :-)

ScottA ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 3:23 PM

Thanks LilWolff. Anything on the site or in my file locker here is up for grabs. I don't have a wife or kids to worry about. But I do have family to stay with for a while. I just decided to stop the cycle of trapping myself into working for poor businessmen because I had a mortgage and Taxes to pay for. I guess you could call it Self Inflicted Homelessness. ;-) Fact is. I've just had it with bad business owners. So I decided to take my money and look around for a while and see if there is a smarter way to make a living. Maybe I'll just start running like Forest Gump. ;-) Who knows. I like the thrill of taking on the unknown. It's my "thing". I hear FEMA might be hiring a new manager soon.....Hmmm. ;-) -ScottA

butterfly_fish ( ) posted Fri, 09 September 2005 at 4:54 PM

Well good for you taking control of things. And I'd vote for you for the new FEMA manager. Anybody who can model Poser stuff has got to have more of a clue than that guy. ;-)
