Subject: P3DO explorer re-ordering my internet favorites?

maclean ( ) posted Mon, 12 September 2005 at 5:19 PM · edited Thu, 28 November 2024 at 11:42 AM

Is this possible? I was adding favorite poser and DS folders to Yarp's P3do, and after I closed it, I went back to browsing the net. I suddenly discovered the my IE folders had all been reset into alphabetical order. It's just a weird glitch, but pretty annoying. Has it happened to anyone else? I'm using the latest versions of both P3do and IE + win 2k with all updates. Of course, it could be totally unrelated to P3do. mac

It could just be that IE sorted the files.

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Mon, 12 September 2005 at 6:06 PM

IE does that occasionally. Haven't figured out what triggers it.

maclean ( ) posted Mon, 12 September 2005 at 6:44 PM

You're probably right. I deleted all the favorites in p3do, and redid them. IE seems to be fine. Can't say I've ever had it happen before though. Win 2k keeps a list of the order in Docs & Settings, but I can't find that either. Oh well... cheers mac

Hi mac, The P3dO favorites are using the IE Add and Organize dialogs to manage their favorites, but the P3dO favorites have nothing to see with the IE ones. What probably happened is that by using the Add dialog - since it is still a IE dialog - the dialog reordered your favorites by itself, but there's absolutely no code in P3dO to do so. I think you shouldn't have deleted your Favorites. The created links has nothing to see with this. I will double check this. btw I was wondering if someone was using the Favorites. If you have any suggestion on improving the Favorites I'm there. For example I was thinking about automatically generating the Favorites from Poser runtimes.

Yarp a great thing for your program would be for the rsr to png plugin to recursively go through directories and change all rsr files to png or vice versa. It would be a great time saver and prevent accidental deletion of files that havent been converted.

yarp ( ) posted Tue, 13 September 2005 at 8:12 AM

I can't see why you need this, but for sure it's quite easy to do. As for recursivity it is a P3dO pro feature. Yarp

When you download some items all the thumbnails are rsr files at times so for propack and upwards you have to change them to rsr files and if you have installed a lot of things it means you have to go through each drawer to fix them.

yarp ( ) posted Tue, 13 September 2005 at 11:39 AM

Then if you have propack you don't need PNGs, so why would like a double way conversion ?

xantor ( ) posted Tue, 13 September 2005 at 12:13 PM

Propack does use png files. The double way conversion would be good for people who still use poser 4 or for people making things to sell or for free that will still work with poser 4.

yarp ( ) posted Tue, 13 September 2005 at 1:09 PM

I'm sorry, I still can't see why people would need both Rsr and Png since they only need to make the conversion when they prepare the package not for the whole library. The goal of Rsr2Png is to get rid of unused pictures.

I mean just for the conversion to work the same way as it does but to go through all the folders so it will still delete rsrs if png files are being made or it will delete the png files if rsrs are being made.

yarp ( ) posted Tue, 13 September 2005 at 2:19 PM

Ok, I thought you wanted Rsr2Png to generate PNG when RSR exists, and RSR when PNg exists, at the same time. apparently what you are asking for is just recursive conversion in the folder substrcture, am I right ? So, this feature already exists in P3dO pro. With P3dO pro Rsr2Png can convert thumbs of a whole library at once. You have to select the desired runtime, click "Explore subfolders", then run Rsr2Png.

hi yarp, Thanks for replying. I think it was just a glitch. I've added in new favorites and everything seems to be fine. Actually, what I'd prefer to see is the Favorites with sub-menus, exactly like the windows ones. Maybe P3do could have a function to automatically add all poser and DS folders to the favorites, and place them in the correct sub-menus. Also, please don't forget DS support. So many people are using it now, and V1.0 is out in a few days, so it's already feature-locked, with no more code changes. I haven't tried in this version yet, but in the last version I noticed P3do would delete the .png in a DS folder, but not the .ds/dsb/daz file. But I do note that in this version, if there's no .png for a DS file, nothing shows at all. I thought it would show a blank DS icon. cheers mac

Hi mac, P3dO has no support for .DS/.DSB files yet. I will contact Daz shortly and add those. Thanks for the tip. Beside this P3dO Favorites have sub-menus support like the Windows/IE Favorites. When you add a favorite link you can create sub-folders as well. You can also edit them directly within Windows Explorer exactly like you would with IE. I will also add automatic Favorite generation and new folder detection. As I said I was just wondering if Favorites where of any use to someone. Now it's time to think about a 2nd version. yarp

While taking my breakfast I thought I didn't got what you where asking for. What do you mean with sub-menus ? Do you mean Popup menu in the Favorite menu and Tree view ? Like for example : deleting and/or renaming a shortcut ?

Hey Yarp Love your program and don't run poser without P3DO But when I'm rearranging my files and folders, I do alot of cut and pasting and the PNG Images are a great help for me for Organization purposes.

It's "mind over matter". If I don't mind,it don't matter.

'P3dO has no support for .DS/.DSB files yet. I will contact Daz shortly and add those' hi yarp, Version 1.0 of DS was released today, so support would be a great idea. And nothing's going to change in the code now it's out of beta. 'Do you mean Popup menu in the Favorite menu and Tree view ? ' No, I just meant the normal IE system. If I navigate to Favorites/characters, a sub-menu opens with all the folders I have in my characters library. Is that the way it works now? I can't get it to do that. mac

yarp ( ) posted Wed, 14 September 2005 at 11:14 PM

redarti, do you have problems with cut and paste ? I say so because I have a lot of crashes myself while cuting and pasting in P3dO. This is a long time bug which I have a lot of difficulties to master. Mac, I see what you are asking for and no P3dO doesn't behave this way. This problem is something I noticed myself but I didn't knew IE was working this way. I will fix this.
