hi guys...well, i only have a sec...we gotta run help a friend...but i just finished getting my pictures up onto our homepage. would like your feedback. i'm not happy with any of the pictures i took. i did the best i could. i bombed. what can i say? it was a very challenging photo shoot. never shot a band before. had some challenges for sure...not blocking the crowd was a biggie. having to shoot most of these on full zoom...not good. anyway...please give me honest feedback guys. any suggestions are appreciated!!! when you open the link, the opening picture is kemal's. the color images are his; the rest are mine. i plan to change the order of the pics a bit and also to change the titles. i just don't have time now. anyway, thanks a bunch guys for taking the time to look and give me feedback and stuff. 3 pages of great band shots! Nicely done Sheila (and Kemal). I do like the B&W's the best, sorry Kemal, though your opening shot does kick a$$. ;oP Looks like a fun gig...wish I could hear what they sound like. One suggestion. To add a little more variety, try taking some future shots from a lower perspective if possible. Most of these seem head level, with is nice because it adds a sense of intimacy. But a little more variety might work too. :) --Kort

i was going to suggest individual shots since they were so spread out but you got those! :] & think you're being too hard on yourself... so how did the band like them? :]

Well, the band only got minor time...I spent 20 minutes on the site, though. I like its looks. Lots of nice art to look at, too!

I can't agree with you Shiela - I think you've done a splendid job! 1st time and you have got a good collection of professional looking images. I'm no expert so yes there maybe ways to improve and I'm sure you will work those out but don't knock what you have achieved so far.

I think they are terrific pics Sheila! I bet the band loves them all! :-) The color pics are so bright and beautiful and the b & w give that professional touch! I like the pictures where they are just chatting too. :-) Excellent job hon!!

I think u did great too!! My fav one is the portrait in color of the guitarist with the glasses!! The last one I think it is!! Great reflections in the glasses and clear shot!! U did both beautifully!!

I think to do this as a first time it is really excellent. The black and white ones really did get the emotion of singers actually singing.Colours a re nicely taken and clear, but less feeling into the music. Being down below and getting look up shots is always good for band photos too. I bet they liked tham

Thanks a bunch guys for your comments and advice! about 1 1/2 hours after i posted this thread, we were showing our pictures to our friend at his house. the images look fine on my monitor but not on his. OMG, i had about 6 images that i forgot to work with in layers. on his monitor, you could see where i had done some erasing and missed some spots. I worked on most of these when i was half asleep 'cause i've worked my freakin' ass off since the shoot and had no other time to work on them. i deleted them from our friends' home. i'll work on them later and then put them back up. :) Kort, Doug...i agree 100% with what you said about getting those shots from another perspective...looking up. Here's the challenge though...THE AUDIENCE!!!! I can't block their view. It's very hard to get those shots without being in their way. i might have a few more from that perspective. i'll look & see!!! :) Cindy...the band hasn't seen the images yet. Well, Bill (the bass player) saw the opening pic on the adventures page, but that's it. we just uploaded them today. but i'll let u know. :) Pascale...i liked that one too! Thanks! :) Maggie...since you like the informal shots, i have another i might upload...one of Brenda with her granddaughters during the break between sets! thanks for the suggestion! Richard...i know one thing i need to work on is not cutting off the guitarists hands. LOL! :) i'm trying not to knock myself, but honestly, i look at these images and just wish i had done better. Chuck...we are gonna put more images of the band up. i have some others i will show ya'all later. thanks for checkin' us out and for your nice words! Doug...i did try really hard to capture their emotions...the intensity i felt from their music. i'm glad that came thru. i just wish i had taken better pictures. Guys...just wanna thank ya'all for taking the time to look, for your supportive words and suggestions. Please, please critique my work as hard as you can. i need all the help i can get!!!! :) i look at your images...your galleries...and want so badly to take pictures that are as incredible as yours. I do work hard at it...practicing, studying, constantly pushing myself. i'm just not very good. not yet. but one day...i will be!!! :) just gotta keep at it!!! :)

thank you, doug, for encouraging me. i'm serious, doug. i look at my images and just laugh sometimes. at least i can laugh!!! :) really, i compare my images to yours and so many other artists here and at Photo Sig. well...it gives me a lot to strive for. i have a lot of room for improvement and that's good. i can honestly say i've improved. i see it. i know i have a long way to go to be the kind of photographer i want to be. that's cool 'cause i LOVE practicing!!! LOL! :)

Sheila, with a possible gig doing a cd cover and insert pics in my future, this is a great start. As said before, don't be too hard on yourself! I like the BW approach to many of the shots. And...in the situation you had to shoot, yikes, I would hope to do half as well. What the band sees is the real answer. Go lady, go! Tom.

tvernuccio ( ) posted Fri, 16 September 2005 at 9:05 AM

Pascale...guess you're right about that! Tom, thanks for writing! I read a couple of tutorials on outdoor festivals. they recommend b/w because there's just WAY too much stuff going on in the scenes. They also said it's extremely difficult to make a good composition. i just wish i had nailed the focus better. sigh. Anyway, we're gonna try to do a CD cover for them...not from the festival pics. Brenda wants me to shoot them in one of the band members' corvette. :) One of the band members was missing at the gig so we can't use those pics for the CD cover. Yeah...what the band sees is the real answer as you said. Keepin' my fingers and toes crossed. :) Thanks for your support, Tom!
