And naturally we have a massive impenetrable cloud cover here right as we speak. The light earlier today was kinda strange looking though.

Skiwilgee: We're talking highly radio-active particles here. X-rays, Gamma rays and such. Get deep, deep, deep underground. Put your head between your knees and kiss your ass goodbye!

a neutrino will go in yer noggin, and out yer @#$..and affect nothing at all..within acceptible margins..;) The high energy stuff might start a skin cancer or 2 (out of 6 billion), but to be honest, unless you listen to Howard Stern or something, it will just be an annoyance..;)

I have been looking at the sun most of the week through my telescope and a solar filter. This is a huge sunspot the spooky thing is we should not be having sunspots right now (they happen in 11 year cycles right now is low point). This sunspot is very unusual as well because it is extremely active.
It is very strange to have one so active has me a bit freaked out (yes more then normal). This spot is so huge it can be seen without a telescope (DO NOT LOOK AT THE SUN DIRECTLY!!!!) with strong welders glasses or eclipse glasses. It was strong enough to burnout the CCD of the satellite that tracks the sun SOHO.
Oh yes and one last thing for all you teasers out there. It is very possible an extinction on earth was cause by a massive dose of x-rays from our sun or a near by star, an tin-foil would just make you cook faster

years eve of a solar minimium minimum (2006)is stronger then years before solar max.

A large sun-spot (several times the size of the earth) has opened up giving rise to enormous solar flares. Lookout for the Northern Lights in more southerly regions than normal over the next 24 hours. Satellites are expected to be compromised during this time.Message edited on: 09/14/2005 14:42
