Simple...if that was me, I would take the shot again, different location, diff setting, different light! If I'm not happy with a shot, I take more till I'm happy! That way, dont need heavy pw!

Nameless_Wildness ( ) posted Fri, 16 September 2005 at 3:53 PM

When I take shots of my son, I normally shoot loads, different angles, different settings, viewpoints etc...that way, I'm bound to get at least a few good shots. I play around him...sometimes adjusting the cam settings to suit the light if tricky.

I'm not particularly fond of those blown highlights on the faces.

IMHO, the quickest fix would be to add a border line at the bottom middle where the white bleeds into the border. Secondly, the blown highlights in their faces causes some issues, especially with the middle one where she is almost skull-like. Aside from that, I like it. :)

Ya cant really put back which isnt there imo...would love to see the original to see the diff between the two images...as 3dguy and kort, blown highlights and not enough greytones imo...it is a good composition though!

As many know on here, I prefer to keep to the original image with minimal postwork...just my preference...but I'm sure the other members will help ya out:)

kimariehere ( ) posted Fri, 16 September 2005 at 5:11 PM

yeah i am learning to do that more and more when i have a good cam i tend to keep the original image and when the camera sucks i get upset and start playing with the shot.. i guess i just need to go get a good cam prob is money ... i gave up my career stay home now and mike is in charge of the money ...sigh... i might just go back to work i am getting so frustrated lately.. but back to the shot thanks for your help... i just like the three of them in the back seat and was trying to do something to make them all happy and keep the shot.. ...

Difficult to know what you or the girls are after what appeals to one is not the same as another but I done one in Colour, one in b/w for you to have a look at. It may give you a few ideas for what to try anyways.

And every one said, 'If we only live,
We too will go to sea in a Sieve,---
To the hills of the Chankly Bore!'
Far and few, far and few, Are the lands where the Jumblies live;
Their heads are green, and their hands are blue, And they went to sea in a Sieve.

Kim! In all honesty I might take Jimbo's advice and retake the shot, matter of fact take a bunch of them, different setting too, yes! Take your girls to the park and pose them together, maybe kneeling in the grass, or all three on the slide together. Get creative and have fun with it! This image bothers me because you have cut off part of your youngest daughter. Up close and personal is good when doing portraits, it brings more emotion to the image, just make sure it is balanced. (ie: If you show the shoulders of the one daughter on one side, show the shoulders of the child on the other side too). I wish I could show you what my sister did with her three because they came out awesome, she shot them in film and I do not have copies. She had them laying in the grass with their heads together, she caught them all on the slide together, she captured each one individually, and various poses of the two older children holding the baby! I am betting she went through about three rolls of black and white film to get the images she wanted. I hope I have been of some help. Brenda :)

oh i do take all kinds of shots like that.. hehe i have hundreds i just liked this one cause of personal reasons and wanted to do something with it .. that was a special night and there is a sentimental thing to it..!! but thank you ... i have over 2000 of my kids on this computer alone...but you see, annie my oldest refuses to pose .. she is a bit self concious these days so a new photo shoot would be hard... but thank you!

Kimmers, the original is DARLING!!! I don't have kids as you know, but i do have a 13 year old niece who sounds much like your teens! she's SO self-conscious about how she looks and believe me, i understand why you're trying so hard to please your girls!!! i LOVE the last one the Richard did, and i also wanna know how you did that Richard!!! Also, Kimmers...Richard...how did you guys make Janel's arm looks smaller?

kimariehere ( ) posted Sat, 17 September 2005 at 4:10 AM

iam not sure Shelia how Onslow worked his magic but i simply used the clone too... she put on a bit of wieght this summer not much but about 10 pounds from staying with my Aunt for 2 months she fed her good and now she is working on it but didnt like her arm there.. i just cloaned it out ...wish i could do that to my butt in real life!!! LOL thanks Shelia..

Hey Kimmerz I don't see anything wrong with the original image at all! I do like it in B&W, but the postwork you did is really distracting. The blur and cloning is noticeable and takes away from the original. We discussed this in MANY threads...its NOT the camera...it the person behind it that makes is all happen! Sometime we have to get out of the "easy fix" mentality and just take pix. Not all photos we take need to be works of art...some are just precious moments captured in time! Those are the priceless ones! My 2.5 cents! Joe

tvernuccio ( ) posted Sat, 17 September 2005 at 11:39 AM

LOL, Kimmers!!!! smiles hahaha...yeah...wouldn't that be cool to use the clone tool to clone out a few unwanted pounds in real life!!!!! :) winks i wish kids weren't so hard themselves. Jessie's going thru that same gothic stage that it sounds like Annie's going thru. and how funny...Jessie doesn't pose either. but she will let me take pictures of her while she's doing whatever it is she's doing. and Joe...what you said about some just being precious moments captured in time...yeah...they are the priceless ones. now...i have this urge to work on some more images of Jessie!!!! OMG...i have so many of her...and i cherish every one...even the blurry ones...hard to make myself trash 'em!!! :)
