Macro mode allows you to get in close to your subject
Your C-500 has 2 modes:
Macro - This mode lets you capture from as close as 20cm/7.9" from your subject( optical zoom will be at the greated wide angle)
SuperMacro - lets you capture as close as 2cm/0.8" from subject (in this mode zoom is fixed)
check page 41 of the user manual for more info and example images for each setting(PDF at link!)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when
isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is
supposed to be fire and brimstone?
