Subject: How toes one delete part of a prop wthout losing texture elements?

Is there any way to export an OBJ. prop which has several texture elements (e.g. house with ceiling, walls, roof, floor texture elements) and then re-import it after deleting, say, an outside wall without losing the separate texture elements? When I delete a wall in Ray Dream 3D and re-import it the house is now just a single, solid piece.

I think it has to do with how Raydream saves the .OBJ. Not that I know Raydream, but the Poser .OBJ export retains the material settings. You can delete a wall right within Poser, by the way, using the Grouping Tool. Here's how it goes: - select the prop and open the Grouping Tool; - create a new group; - add all polygons you want to keep to this new group (the Add Material option might come in handy here - say you want to keep the roof, then you just have to click Add Material and select the roof material); - create a prop from this new group; - close the grouping tool; - and delete the original prop.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter

Good suggestion, svdl.

Yes, it can be a boggle figuring out which import and export settings preserve materials and groupings (and SCALE) in and out of Poser. You do want to be sure to tick "include existing groups" when exporting from Poser, for one thing.

As for Ray Dream... I can't remember, as I upgraded my copy long ago to the much easier to use (and more powerful) Carrara.

There is still a promotion at Eovia ( http://www.eovia.com/purchase/promotions.asp ) giving up to 23% off on purchase of Carrara for owners of Ray Dream (any version).
