Subject: Is this Turbosquid model Judy's head?

Before notifying CL, I figured I'd better get a few more eyes on this product to make sure I'm not mistaken. Judy has such a strange face that it's hard to imagine that somebody would coincidentally create a similar head.

My visual indexes of Poser content are at http://www.sharecg.com/pf/rgagnon

SamTherapy ( ) posted Tue, 20 September 2005 at 1:40 PM

Nah, it's not nearly ugly enough. :D Seriously, it looks more like the aborted Renda or a severely f*cked up V3 (ok, same thing) to me. In truth, I doubt you could determine anything without a comparison of the meshes, although DAZ takes a hard line on using their stuff even as a reference for modelling, as with Alexa.

That's definitely not Judy's head. The wireframe (displayed in one of the sample pics) is totally different.

It's not Judy, but very similar... And what about Masha? I don't like the price, but she seems to me a very good model. See the link. Cheers mervpaine

I wonder how many of the zygote anatomy things have been sold or the crap for that matter?

"I wonder how many of the zygote anatomy things have been sold or the crap for that matter?"

At least 4 people purchased the crap. Notice there are 4 ratings on the poop, and you have to buy the product to be able to give a rating on Turbosquid.

Honestly, if you have 3dsmax, and you can't model a simple piece of poop, you had better give it up and do something else with your time. ;-P Message edited on: 09/20/2005 16:10

Talking about modelling crap, has anyone done a Poser model of Mr Hankey the Christmas Poo ?

I was toying with the idea of making mr hankey, it should be fairly easy to do, I don`t know of any poser versions made yet.

As today's lucky winner, you get free refills for as long as you like. BTW, I make a mean Iced Coffee, if alcohol ain't your bag. OTOH, I can mix just about any combination of falling down juice you care to mention. :D Sam's Bar is always open for those of you good people, and for some of you bad people, too. :)

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2005 at 2:45 AM

I still get boggled by TurboSquid prices, but I expect a lot of people buying there are people whose time is reckoned worth a lot of money. And if they're being paid $X for the whole job, it can pay better to buy components and have the time to do another job. That's likely why Poser texture/character sets sell too. It takes a bit of time to make another face and make a texture look different.

Casette ( ) posted Wed, 21 September 2005 at 3:14 AM

Sometimes Im tempted on email TurboSqueeze and ask them: "BUT REALLY SOMEONE HAS BUYED ANYTIME YOUR ZYGOTE MALE ANATOMY COLLECTION???" (maybe they are proud of selling a 3D model more expensive than a car...)

"And if they're being paid $X for the whole job, it can pay better to buy components and have the time to do another job."

Yep, they just pass along the expense to the client. No loss to them.

The Zygote male anatomy is definitely something that's being purchased by the medical community. Zygote's claim to fame is creating anatomically correct models of the inner workings of a human body. You couldn't use Vicki for something that requires that level of precision detail. So even if they sell just one or two of them, that's a good deal for both parties involved. It's possibly a write-off for the party purchasing, and obviously a profit for the sellers. We may snicker at the prices quoted on that site, and for the most part, they deserve contempt. However, the prices on most of the items are worth it to professionals who need something quick, to fulfill a tight deadline, for instance. The expense of the product can be tied into the final quote they pass on to the client, and since they saved lots of time by not having to model something from scratch, they're saving the client money too. Don't forget, the estimated expense of a professional to model a custom piece for commercial use can run into the hundreds of dollars PER HOUR. This is saving BOTH parties time and money. Here's something that might open people's eyes to how much professionals actually charge for services... At one time, not so long ago, I contacted DAZ to ask them for a quote on how much they would charge to rig the Victoria 3 mesh in 3dsmax. They wrote back, and the price they gave me was in the area of around $3000, if I recall correctly. That's three THOUSAND, just for rigging the already modeled figure, and possibly converting the morphs over to work in that app! They also recommended I just ask someone on the forums to do it for me instead, since they were tied up with other things, and wouldn't have been able to accomidate my needs in a timely fashion. Now, of course, had I taken them up on it, I'd have ended up with a professional 3dsmax rig of V3 that would save me hours and hours of my own time, but clearly their time is more expensive than my own. ;-)

$3000? Sounds like they don't really have 3dsmax, and it was just their way of asking you to buy it for them. They probably didn't want to just come out and say "sure, we'll rig v3 in 3dsmax for you, just buy us the program first". hehe!!

"...does that include 80% proof Macedonian apricot brandy ? (distilled in the backyard...)" Honest answer is "No, it doesn't." It does, however, entitle you to Sam Therapy's Frightening Home Distilled Mead. And, let me tell you, that's an offer you can't (or daren't) refuse. Just make sure you have a chair behind you when you drink it. I have some Lemon Coke if you're a bit of a wuss, though. :D
