I've seen it before, though not in person. Does look cool, though I think a movable LCD does pretty much the same thing.

Are u sure that kind of thing is really a good one ? I have a Nikon coolpix AND a Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) and I'm glad to loose that f***ing screen on my DSLR... The traditional view is much more precise ! No parasite light, full concentration on your composition AND no silly look with your arms behind you ! LOL But of course, it a matter of taste ! LOL Andreas didn't you only just get that cam and you're already tired of it?Yeeesh! On the other hand so did I and I wouldn't mind a DSLR myself...lol.

Yeah, me too, but you guys produce stunning images with what you have. I would save you money and get on in a year or two when since the tech just keeps on getting better and prices lower.

I bought a Nikon Cool pix 8700 in April of 2004 and I shot over 5,000 images with it. I then bought the D 70 in February 2005 and it is now September, I reached the 5,000 mark about a month ago. With the 8700 I always composed using the LCD, simply because the viewfinder on that camera reminds me of cartoonland or something, I like the fact that the LCD swivels and turns and I can get a viewpoint that normally I would be too short get so it has its advantages. With the D 70 I have to use the viewfinder, the scene is not cartoonish at all it is like using a regular SLR, what you see is what you get. I honestly have to say that I prefer the viewfinder, the LCD is just for seeing a preview of what you shot. Now for the major difference between them, when shooting with the 8700 I have a "take" of about 50% on the average, half of the shots I shoot with this camera are OOF or the exposure isn't quite right, because using the LCD you really have no clue that the image is not sharp until you get home and down load it. With the D 70 using the viewfinder, I have on average a 90% "take" I can tell if the image isn't focused properly and it always comes out the way I saw it through the viewfinder. Another thing that I find is that my batteries last much longer with the D 70 then the batteries ever lasted using the 8700! Why? Because I was always using that LCD on the 8700, and that my dear must litterally drain those batteries, I could get an hour to hour and a half on an 8700 battery, depending on whether or not I used the flash. My D70 battery lasts forever, I am betting that on average I might have ten hours on each battery, it takes forever to use one up. I shot a whole wedding, over 400 images with flash unit on one battery! And I had already used it for a ton of images prior to doing the wedding My advice Andreas, don't go out and buy a D SLR just because you can buy a LCD to use with it, LCD's are nice and have their place, but I can guarantee that once you shoot with a D SLR you won't miss that LCD for very long. I have to agree with Brenda here!! When I first have my Canon I was lost, not being able to use the LCD for shooting but now, I wouldn't go back to LCD shooting! No way!

Hmm...and i remember when you said you definitly prefered your LCD-panel Pascale....looks like Brenda is right. Its all a matter of getting used to a certain thing. Its still a cool add-on though....dont you boys agree with me?

Might be for certain situation, yes sure! but, to be honest, I'm not convinced!! Should try it really! o_o

OK Andreas, Promise me something, if you buy a D SLR, use it as is for about two weeks, then if you are still convinced you just can't live without that LCD, go try it out at the store, I mean you can try it before you buy it right? Personally I think whatever money you would spend on this LCD would be better spent on a new lens for your new D SLR! Brenda :) Where the heck do you get those smilies Andreas?

Yeah...like im gonna tell you.... LOL! And for the record, I totally agree with you Brenda, of course i will test it out before i would buy such a little gadget....not an issue now anyway since i dont even have a DSLR...sniff..sniff.

I will repeat just what Brenda says...we did exactly the same things at same times without really knowledge of it.
Smae cams...same times...same reasons and hmmmmmmmm Dont forget that shutter sound...ahhhh plus the lenses you can equip it with. Forget the LCD for a viewfinder... You have much more control of steadiness propping your cam on your palm with elbows in your body than holding a point and shoot out in the air.Battery life...Only thing an LCD is good for is seeing your curves after the shot and reviewing images.
I guarantee....3 clicks with a DSLR andreas and you will scoff at any , and I mean any other digital. I am going to sell my 8700 now for a bit back on a new body. (camera)

ditto.. with an SLR you're looking straight through the lens, better to hold it closer to you & have more control but while you're at it you can buy me a DSLR too! or the makings for my own darkroom, an enlarger & a really good scanner & i'll be happy to go back to film :]
