Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 18 5:11 pm)
Certainly beautiful, but I'll reserve the Oh Wow until they show a wireframe. "Low poly" could mean 100k to some people.

i don't know the poly count of that girl on Deathfall, but this guy is less than 2000 polys, and still impressive as hell.Message edited on: 09/22/2005 15:46
Tools : 3dsmax 2015, Daz Studio 4.6, PoserPro 2012, Blender
v2.74
System: Pentium QuadCore i7, under Win 8, GeForce GTX 780 / 2GB
GPU.
The "ruffian fatso" figure is 1808 triangles, or so it says. It is very impressive in the default pose, but the low count may limit bending quite a bit. When he tries to bend the arms and fingers, the polygon edges become obvious. However, he could probably correct that easily enough in rendered output.

***" The "ruffian fatso" figure is 1808 triangles, or so it says."***You didn't check out the wire? I didn't count the polys manually, but it can't be more than 2k.
Here's one that's 7,599 polygons. The first image is the IN-game graphics. If you scroll down, you get to see the wire mesh as well. Height "normal" maps are used for detail. He looks better than some of the highest res poser meshes.
It all depends on some variables, and what the application is capable of. Have you ever seen the "Neckling" examples from Messiah:Studio? It uses advanced 32 bit displacement maps generated in Zbrush on a 320 polygon mesh to get VAST detail... and there's an animation of it as well.

If you have any doubts about Eileen Galvin's poly count, remember that she was designed to be onscreen with several other characters with similar poly counts, in detailed environments, on the Playstation 2 game console. She looks very impressive in motion, and you really don't think about or notice that she's low poly.

Yes, I know this is done with software that costs 5-10 times as much as Poser does; but it's still impressive. They seem to be a bit coy about how low the poly-count actually is, but it looks as though they're in-game, realtime renderings.
