Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Jan 24 1:08 pm)
You'll have problems even with Maya (6.5 anyway) with Tiger. I have kept my G5 at 10.3.9 (Panther) due to the many compatibility probs with Tiger. I feel your pain though!

I have problems with P6 on Tiger, sure. But I had exactly the same problems before Tiger (and before Poser 6 SR1, which fixed no problem I ever encountered); and for that matter I had all the same problems with P5. I've never had the "hidden dialog" problem that seems most common. Don't think I'm suggesting its your imagination or anything -- I'm just saying that it's NOT a universal problem, and that may make it hard for them to reproduce reliably. And a problem that can't be reliably reproduced is hard to fix. The problems I've had consistently since P5 (like pulldown menus that contain irrelevant junk rather than what they should) may be equally non-universal and difficult to reproduce. I can't imagine what their priority could be beyond fixing such bugs; but so far as I'm concerned they're in no danger from D|S until and unless DAZ has a reasonably priced plugin(s) for dynamic hair and clothes. I'd say something dramatic like "without that, D|S is just a toy"... but, technically, for me, they're both just toys anyway. ;-)
I have a Mac G5 with Tiger. I've seen some odd things, like Poser just quitting on me suddenly, but it hasn't happened all that often, and Poser 5 on OS X Panther also crashed sometimes. For the most part P6 seems to run better, but that is probably because the G5 is a much better machine than the G4.
The big problem I have with Poser 6 is that apparently Dynamic Clothes don't work. I say "apparently" because they're complicated and buggy enough in the first place, so I don't know that this is just a Mac problem. But after several hours of trying I just gave up on that major feature.

They work fine for me. Hair, too. Although I've sometimes had problems getting P6 to "clothify" some clothes. Sometimes it won't try; sometimes it pretends to try but isn't successful. But most items, in most scenes, clothify fine, and simulations run (not necessarily quickly), with excellent results. So again; everyone's getting different problems, in different areas of the program. Frustrating for us, but also tough for them no doubt.

I contacted e-frontier after doing an Archive and Preserve reinstall of Tiger, which fixed the hidden dialog box problem for about 5 days and now it's back. Just got a reply from e-frontier tech support which says nothing new. It states again that there were changes between the pre-release version of Tiger that was given to e-frontier and the final release of Tiger. And that they fixed the major Tiger problems with SR1 and the only estimation for a SR2 release date is "shortly". I sent this response which sums up my frustration with them. I'm tired of this. "From my weekly visits to the Renderosity forum and from my own experience I can see no other Tiger issue anywhere near as prevalent or annoying or "major" as the hidden dialog box, which renders Poser completely unusable. So whatever was fixed with SR1 must have somehow been worse. So Tiger came out in April and we are approaching October and the programmers still appear completely stymied by the changes that Apple snuck in at the last minute, and can't even give an ETA for a fix. I'm not sensing any urgency from e-frontier on this issue so I will put my efforts into Maya. All I can say is it's good that you people are selling Poser 6 at dirt-cheap prices."
