Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2025 Feb 10 10:34 am)
Poser 6 uses external binary morph files (.pmd extension). This reduces filesize, speeds load-times, permits multiple characters to use the same morph deltas (thus saving memory), etc. It's a good idea, but it's still a bit buggy. You can disable the feature via General Preferences, keeping the morph deltas "internalized" as with P5 and earlier. As far as upgrading is concerned, P6 does have some nice features, many of which I consider worthwhile. And you'll be able to play around with the new P6 figures (Jessi, James, Kate, and Ben).
You don't have to run them through P6, regardless of what you intend on doing with them. Just about everything in P5 will work in P6 fine (usually), but files saved in P6 will give you the "newer version" message when loading them into P5. Otherwise there's no benefit to importing things through P6 if you don't have the program.

Okay, I have Poser 5 and my friend has Poser 6. He thinks I should make all my new models and import them through P6 because it is the latest version. So far, the only difference I have seen between 5 and 6 is when I create a new prop in v6, if it has morphs it makes a 'morph binary file'. I have no idea what that is! Any suggestions? Would you stick to 5 or keep up with the times and move to 6?
