Subject: Tutorial for hyper-realistic renders in P5

c_hubert ( ) posted Sun, 25 September 2005 at 12:26 AM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 8:46 PM

Does anyone know of any tutorials for producing Hyper-real skin renders in P5. I have seen some images (can't remember who from) that had some excellent skin textures. I think some of them were product pics, I just can't seem to get the skin right no matter what texture set I use tho. Please help :)

The best product, IMHO, is (for Unimesh characters) the Unimesh Realism Kit by face_off (you can view the results in my gallery). Face_off has also put up a tutorila on how to make the shaders by yourself, but I don't remember where so you can contact him.

Mmmmm, that depends on what you call "Hyper-Realistic". If you are referring to the HyperReal products (from which the Realism Kit's were derived), then there is no specific tutorial, although what you probably need is a lighting tutorial....There is one at this link, although it's a little involved....http://www.users.on.net/~pkinnane/IBL%20Tutorial/SpecularIBLTutorial.html If you want to replicate the HyperReal node setups, check here.....http://www.users.on.net/~pkinnane/RealSkinShaderTutorial.html If you are not happy with your renders, you can always post them here, and there is usually no shortage of people willing to provide crits. People like Maxxxmodels, UweMattern and Richardson (to name just a few of the excellent realism artists around) can usually pinpoint issues pretty quickly.

Since he seems to not like to do it himself, I am going to plug face_off's skin scripts. I highly suggest getting your hands on them! I went through the tutorial above, and I understood it well enough to do a pretty decent render or two. Then I decided I would just buy the script, and see if it would help me do it better. I was very impressed. You can tweak the nodes after the script does its work, but it saves so much time and effort in the setup, it is more than worth the price.

I would also highly recommend face-off's "Unimesh Realism Kit." I've had good luck with the script, a Daz high-res texture, and global lights you can get from various vendors.

I think hyper realistic renders depends of the skin texture and improvements, yes... but over all of the light. This morning I was stunned with the last ExprssnImg product: incredible textures, but... I fall in love with Chris' promotion images... Its incredible, I cant got this results with my IBL AO... :O

Ok, I have seen IBL tossed around alot for P6. Is there a way to simulate the results of IBL in P5? If not what would the closest thing be for P5? I can definately see that my problem is a mixture of texture and lighting. Thanks again for the help everyone.

You need Stewer's poor man's IBL, available on his website. Works very similarly to the IBL script I put together for the tutorial link in msg 3 (in fact, I used his script as the basis for mine).
