I know there are not a whole lot of Olympus users here on RO...at least not vocal ones, but there are some, so I thought I'd post the news of the latest from Olympus. I knew they'd be coming out with an improved version of the E-300, so I held off. I'm glad I did, the 500 sounds just fantastic...on paper. Now I just have to decide...groceries, gasoline, electricity, car insurance...or a new camera. At least it isn't THAT expensive. There are a bunch of preview links on the dp site, but here is another they don't have there: http://reviews.cnet.com/Olympus_Evolt_E-500/4505-6501_7-31517843.html?tag=nl.e725 Enjoy!

I know Mark (hotracer) has a E-300 too...you could check with him as well. Of course Cindy has more soft spots...shes not made out of stone....is she? I personally have plenty of soft spots after eating all this cake...sigh. #:o)

How come we say 'It's colder than hell outside' when isn't it realistically always colder than hell since hell is supposed to be fire and brimstone?

WOW ... THEY MADE IT CHEAP !!!!! the kit-prices sound very very sexy well, I just got myself the E-300, so I guess I will need to wait a bit longer ... probably for a E with one number only ;) ... but not the E-1, too old ... I hope the come out sooner or later with another pro-camera for the E series And I still need to save some money for new lenses :( one of the only things I do not like on the E-sys is the display under the seeker ... you always have a fat-spot from you nose there ... and they did not solve it in the E-500 ... well, where to put this big display else ;) so, I guess the E-500 will pass me ... but thanx to TwoPynts for sharing the info ... and, screw gasoline and heating, camera is first-place!!!!

seems a nice and handy camera ... but SLR is SLR ... just go for the E-500 ... dont think about it, JUST DO IT !!!

It is a great camera. Most of my gallery was done with it, though I don't know if that is the best gauge as to it's quality, lol. Also, it has almost all the benefits of an SLR, without having to carry around extra lenses around. Of course, that means you only have the one lense. Still, it was considered the best camera of it's time by some, and even won some award when it came out. I've been quite happy with it, so will take my time getting the 500. ;o)

well, yea ... photographing will sooner or later starve me to death ;) ... expensive hobby ... on the other side, skiing or golfing is still more expensive :) have a great night, People of Olympus !!!

Looks a nice camera for sure - but I think Olympus have lost their way at the moment with slr's. No one else is going to adopt 4/3rds system and why should they they all want to tie people to their kit. When they bring out a full frame dslr for around $800 I'll be first in the queue :D

cyn, I still miss my 5050. Musta had a soft spot for it. ;oP So Rich, you are saying that you don't think the 4/3 system has a future? hmmm, I guess I can see that. I have to admit that I am a bit worried about Oly's future. They have been loosing sales and cutting jobs. I hope they manage to stay afloat and keep making quality products.

I think Olympus has a future, perhaps not 4/3 though. Many companies have lost their way temporarily in the rush to dslr. Canon/Nikon won't dominate for ever things change fast, tortoise and hare situations.

well, I just hope that the 4/3 survives exactly because of the reason that it needs to steady itself in the wild water of dslr ... as soon as digital systems are getting more and more sought after, I guess the 4/3 might have something to show off then ... hopefully
