How does one apply textures in Poser 6? I can't get out of the default textures. The 380-page (PDF) manual is no help.

depends on what you're looking for.

If you're looking for applying full already made textures then for the majority of the stuff it's the same as P5 - go to poses and look for the MAT poses and click. A few forward thinking folks (including the included content that came with P6) have started to use the material room materials though and for those you go the the material room. The library should refresh to the materials folder automaticlly and then you browse through and click like before. If you're looking to make your own and apply them, then you have to set up a shader tree with shader nodes.

To learn how to do that you need to read some tutorials. I suggest Dr. Geep's stuff and Stewers

Geep's can be found by clicking on the backroom (Poser Forum Logo) link and Stewer's is here.

Many thanks. I'll study and digest. Not as intuitive as P4!

Moushie:

If your model is UV mapped and you have a corresponding texture (or set of textures) but no MAT file then:

Go to the Materials room.
Select the model.
Then for each of the materials in the drop-down list for that model:

  • R-Click on a blank bit of the room's background.
  • From the drop down list, select new node->2D textures->image map.
  • When the node appears, click on the image name (at top right of the node, it'll say something like "none" at the moment).
  • When the dialogue appears, you have two choices:
    • if the image has not been loaded yet, click on Browse, then navigate your way to the image and load it.
    • if the image has already been loaded, hit the drop-down triangle to list the loaded images, and select the one you want (if you get both a long name (with a path) and a short name (no path), it tends to be best to select the long one.

Sounds daunting, but once you get used to it its easy enough (if a little tiresome when using V3).

Cheers,
Diolma
Edited to add: If you're going to use the texture again, you can save it in the materials library as a materials collection(?) file (P6's built-in equivalent of the MAT files hack..) Or, of course, you can simply save the model pre-textured into the relevant figure/prop or whatever library..

or you can just switch to the "simple" tab (upper left) and not have to mess with the nodes.
