His shirt in this style really takes on the image.Kind of loses me to what else is going on.
Love the way you captured the image and his intensity in mixing. For me though....a B&W or good colour would do for this.
Mind you I am so far not a huge fan of IR.I see it's benefits, but a road I have not gone.

I like the color & contrast. Is this a promo for them? Question: what is that white framed, black faced box with the white thing sticking out of it? (is it what I think it is?)

thanks for your feedback guys!

Doug...yeah, i love how this postwork intensifies what i thought was a boring image. i think it also gives it a retro kinda look. i think i can see what you're saying about the shirt. any suggestions? normally i prefer just a b/w, but well...i just got in a silly mood i suppose! :)

you like this version better? i don't. it's ok, but i find it boring. yawns LOL!

Rod, i guess we are promoting the band. they don't have a webpage and it's been years since they've had a picture taken of them. The core members have been playing together since high school.

They do want us to shoot their picture which will go on their next CD cover. we can't use any of the live performance images though because two of the members weren't there.

this image was taken at one of their practice sessions.

that black faced box with white thing sticking out of it...LOL...well, i dunno how old you are, but they were pretty popular back when i was a kid. It's an 8-track deck and 8-track cassette.

thanks again guys for tellin' me whatcha think! :)

I kinda like the style of the first image but I think the contrasts are too much, erasing too many details. I can see why u think the second one is boring but I actually like it best so far. I love the subtle, (desaturated?) coloring. Just my 2 pennies! :)

Here is what I like...you may not..But I know you like us goofing around with your images sometimes.LOL I actually thought in your 1st image he was at a mixing board. Somewhere I still have an 8 Track too. And a Beta machine.

Pascale, believe it or not, what you don't like about that first image (details erased) is exactly what i DO like about it! funny, huh! :) to me, that 2nd image just has way too much going on. i like how that first image takes out all that annoying background stuff that was bugging me. now i realize not everyone will like this style. my preferences can be a bit strange to some. usually if i like an image, i can just about guarantee no one else will! LOL! :) but what's funny is so far, i've seem to hit on styles the band members like. i dunno what Joey and the rest of the gang will think of this though. thought i'd test the waters here. :) Thanks for your feedback, Pascale!!!! doug...sure...i don't mind people playing with my pictures! thanks for showing me! yeah, i did one similar to this...and also one in b/w. i do like it. i dunno...i just really dig the style of that first one. silly me! :)

Hahah, the rainbow one is cool. :) How about a combo of that and the first one? I do agree that the midranges need to show up a bit more. Fun stuff! :)

i do like what you're done here sheila.. & after seeing the original there is a bit more detail you could've brought brought forward in the main subject... cool shirt btw!!... oooh.. rockin rich!!! :]

tvernuccio ( ) posted Thu, 29 September 2005 at 12:40 PM

LOL, Richard! Cindy, I find postwork to be quite challenging. well, i find photography to be quite challenging as well! LOL! i'm learning & getting a bit better i think. Can you elaborate, Cindy about how you would have brought out more detail in the main subject? i'd like to learn how to do that better. i see how Richard did it with the lighting and getting rid of even more of all that boring background stuff. is that what you would have done as well, Cindy? deleted more of the background? Thanks for the tips! oh...and i love his shirt too!!! :)

cynlee ( ) posted Thu, 29 September 2005 at 12:47 PM

(hmmm.. one too many "broughts" there.. lol) was thinking along the lines of layering.. matching the original in tone to your first image... then erasing back for more detail... or less, depending which image you have on top... varying the amount/opacity %/pressure of your eraser

tvernuccio ( ) posted Thu, 29 September 2005 at 2:12 PM

i need to get kemal to hook up the tablet on my computer, Cindy! it's on his right now. better yet...time to get a 2nd one! think we'll go buy one today maybe! such a pain to switch them back from computer to computer. the tablet is pressure sensitive. easier to use. thanks for the advice, Cindy!
