just bored and trying to make a photorealistic skin shader in mat room been here before, got bored, wandered off, got bored, wandered back just looking for an opinion on how "real" they look thinking this one is too dark though light falls off into shadow a bit too quickly?

Good lord! That is Amazing!!! Please show me what you did if you are willing. I think that is terrific. How much of it is procedural/node work? Both lip textures are super sexy. The lower skin I covet muchly.

anxcon ( ) posted Sat, 01 October 2005 at 9:25 PM

the mats are all default for a character i have the skinhead texture zone is node only, no texture maps lips/eyes/etc are default for character, i was lazy i may or may not show nodes :P but if i do, itll be after im done with this project, seems 1/2 complete lol but this was a 5 minute render (medium quality) where hyperreal (tested after) took 23 minutes default mats under 2 minutes, so nice speed improvement over hyperreal, but still some effects i havent achieved

I understand if you hold on to those node settings. In anycase the results ar very nice... speed improvement is interesting. I would be pretty happy if I were you.

Very nice... This would compliment the ones coming up under the other thread about non closeup realism.....

"light falls off into shadow a bit too quickly" Exactly!! That's why I posted on Friday how to stop that. Use the clay node (alone or with the diffuse node) to control the light fall-off rate as the surface turns away. Follow the link to see how I used it. You would also notice the shading problem less if you used a more even lighting arrangement. I use an IBL that I made myself that gives strong side and back light so I can just concentrate on the fill light. I usually only need one. I see a pink "spots" node, right? That is great for producing nice believable imperfections. That's a key one for closeup. I'm not sure I buy into the ambient occlusion as done in Poser. There is no doubt it is needed, but every time I use it it dirties the skin and always is too aggressive, no matter what I set it to. Look carefully at the sides of her nostrils. Nobody ever looks like that in normal light. Or check how much darker it got around the top of the ears. Look at pictures of, especially your own pictures instead of magazine ones - you'll never see that much shadowing on a face except in contrived lighting situations.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Do you know a text that explains the special shaders such as clay and skin and that explains how to use them? I think I really prefer post 2 to post 6. The texture is lighter on the forrmer.

Just a heads up for the gallery.... Thought this render was very impressive and very realistic using HDRI's......
