Subject: Heat shimmer

Has anybody come up with a way to make heat shimmer..You know, the stuff you see when you look down a long hot road, or around a jet engine,,,It's there but it's not... Thanks

I suppose you could try using a bump-mapped transparent squashed cube
(with reflection switched off).

Place it above your road, and experiment with a sharpish angle to the camera.

in my image i made a heat shimmer effect by using the glass filter in photoshop, took all of 2 minutes!!
