Subject: Acorn?

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 7:43 PM · edited Sun, 24 November 2024 at 7:47 PM

I need an acorn. Or a walnut. I could swear I had some, but I can't find them.

Niles ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 7:54 PM

RDNA... maybe?

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 8:06 PM

It seems like something RDNA would make, but I can't find any acorns on their site. I checked my Props Club stuff, too, and didn't see an acorn.

Look in the Natural/Plants, Page 7 "Forrest Litter"

StarDogSirius ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 8:12 PM

Runtime DNA has some in their store.. Do a search for "Forest Litter"

StarDogSirius ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 8:14 PM

Well sheesh, Niles got me by... how much? l

MachineClaw ( ) posted Tue, 04 October 2005 at 8:27 PM

IM Travler. He made some for his PropClub long ago, though I think they may have ended up as RealDeals at RuntimeDNA.

Look at the Woodpecker props in the DAZ free archives.

I made this one over a year ago, if anyone wants it.

Along with this morph variant ....

The acorn cap has a P5 procedural material, but the nut itself uses a simple wood texture which I cannot redistribute. It can easily be replaced, though.

Rendo ate my message, so here we go again: Me wants it too ! Much more rounded on close-up than the one from DAZ archives. Ever tried to postwork pointy edges on an acorn ? O.O

No, I can't say that I have ....

I splurged on the polycount for this one since the client needed close-ups and it was the only element in the scene. It's a little over 1100 polys.

In retrospect, I could probably have achieved identical results with a lower-poly mesh, taking advantage of P5's polygon-smoothing. But at least it'll look nice and smooth in P4 or D|S.

I'll email you a copy of the prop later today.

Thank you, I'll check my box tomorrow morning (9.30 PM here) :)

Ooh, neat. I was wondering if it would be possible to do an acorn texture with P5 procedurals.

Cool ones guys. Sharen

Thank you LD, that acorn is awesome. Here's a test render how does it look like in ProPack (completely random bark texture on the cap instead of procedural MAT). That green acorn is the one from woodpecker props (DAZ archives/EmperorKen's site), just as a comparison. Off to feed squirrels ^.^

Any chance this acorn model is still available?  I have searched and this is the best looking one around!
